Our porter cable compressor model #c2000 wik is set to reach 40psi. The compressor will run but will only reach approximately 10 - 15psi. We would like to determine which componet needs to be replace or a procedure to troubleshoot our compressor. We have 2 other compressor's model #C2000 sitting on our bench with the same condition. Your compressor will not build pressure if there is a leak or the cylinder/packing is worn. Easy tests. Use soapy water on all fittings including drain valve while compressor is running. If no leaks, remove covers and secure motor to tank. Run compressor using soapy water on all fittings and repair as needed. If no leaks are found, unplug compressor and turn belt by hand untill piston is full top of stroke and examine cylinder with flashlight for scratches. If you see scratches close to the top of the cylinder, replace cylinder and ring to restore pressure. If cylinder looks smooth most likely valve plate in head has broken reed valves. Parts are available at or your local Dewalt service center. Good luck with your repair and post again if you have other question.

Yes, replace for bigger one. It is often failure problems in cheap compressors.

BTW, do not forgot to add to your compressor a Controller, to increase maintenance quality.

Why does the safety valve go off before the pressure switch on a porter cable 80 gal air compressor

The maximum pressure on most small compressors is 10 bar or 1000kpa which is about 145 psi in the old language most safety valves are set to 150 psi. I suggest you get some one to reduce the pressure switch setting. Running a compressor at elevated pressures does not give you any more air. A reasonable pressure for small compressors is 120 psi

My c2000 wk1 will only reach 40psi

This problem could be caused by 3 different things.

1) The one way Check Valve from the pump to the tank is damaged and allowing the air to go in and out.

2) The piston ring and cylinder sleeve are damaged.

3) The valve plate has a broken reed.

You will need to remove the covers and head to check number 2 and 3..

My porter cable pancake PSI 150 keeps running will not shut off

The compressor has a max psi setting of 150.If the pressure is not reaching this or is only stabilizing at a low pressure you have an air leak around a gasket somewhere. If it is reaching 150psi and not shutting off your pressure switch is bad.Replace it.Check your owner's manual for a part number or go to to find the part.

I have the Porter Cable Cable Brad Nailer and Compressor Combo Kit CFBN125A, and sparks are flying like crazy from where the motor brushes make contact when running. I have wiped down the rotor in an...

In my experience, these are really throw away compressors. I have had several. You might get the parts ... however, if the brushes are arcing, the armature is probably damaged. If that is the case, the motor has probably run hot. As such, the field may well be heat damaged now ... ok, so replace the motor right? Will cost you about $100.00 for parts ... add your labor ... even if that is $0.00, when you are all done, you will have a five year old compressor (worn sleeve and piston? worn reed valves) with a nice new motor.

That was my experience. I replaced the thing. I only use this little compressor at remote places. I have a larger, main compressor for other work.

It runs non stop

If it is constantly running check that the drain plug in the cylinder is not loose and allow air to escape. It turns off when the pressure reaches the set level, but if there is a leak in hose or drain plug it will continue to run.

Porter-cable compressor stops and restarts at about 60psi

You prolly have a leaky gasket in the main valve. Air is leaking and causeing it not to go about 60psi, you probably have it set to reach a high PSI but since the leak is not allowing it reach above 60 it keeps cycling trying to get above it

Not enough PSI

I have worked on several of these little compressors and have found that they suffer from early failure of the cylinder and piston. Unplug compressor and remove cover. Move piston to top of cylinder and check for scratches neer top of cylinder. If scratched, air is bypassing ring and will not reach cutout pressure. Parts are available at your local dewalt parts store or at However, you could check a few things for other problems that I have seen on low pressure compressors. While the compressor is running spray soapy water on the airlines and drain valve to make sure that they are not leaking. A small leak will prevent the unit from reaching cutout limit. Check for belt slipping. You will see black powder/dust if belt is about to fail. Parts are not expensive. Good Luck
