Question about Echo 30.1CC Chainsaw With a 14 and Chain

1 Answer

My cs4600 lost all spark. Checked the kill switch and its fine. Went to town and ordered a coil....the new coil comes in two pieces now, the coil and the cdi module. The dealer says thats some kind of up grade (all echo has to offer now). I'm completely confused as how to wire this thing. Old one just had a kill wire to connect and now this module has a place for two. Ive tried every combination I can find but still no luck..... please help Mike

Hi Mike.

The old breaker point wire and the small wire coming off of the new ignition coil primary both go to the Positive side ot the CDI module. These same wires are grounded when the kill switch is activated to the off position. The negative side ot the CDI module goes to ground or the mounting screw of the CDI module.

If you have a short in the kill wire some where on the engine you will never see spark. Also if the negative side of the CDI module is not grounded you will never see spark. Try running a "temp jumper" from the positive side of the CDI module straight to the coil small wire. If you see spark then the wire from the kill switch most likely has a chassis short some where on the engine. (heat chaffing etc.)

Although this is a generic picture it should help you sort things out.

If you need more help just respond here and I will get back to you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

24 HP BRIGS V TWIN only 1 cylinder is firing what else can I check

No engine numbers to work with so here something to check. Briggs V-twins has set blocking diodes in the kill wire set. If one is shorted or leaky it will cause one coil to be dead if not both.
I just went this very same thing here a few weeks ago. In my case I started out one dead coil for sure installed new coil and still had no fire. Remove the kill wire as I normally do during testing in case a short and the new coil fired fine. Easier to just replace the wire harness then repair it. Out of curiosity I checked out the wiring harness and found one diode shorted and other one leaky.

No spark on Huskvarna Rancher 55

disconnect any and all kill wires going to the coil... if you still have no spark then it can ONLY be the coil... if this produces spark then you have a kill system problem or your flywheel has no magnetism... and this can be the only solution as you do not have points/condenser or things just went full derp

quite possible. check the spark plug holder to make sure the coil is in there that connects the wire to the plug..if it is there, disconnect the kill switch and make sure none of the wires going to it are grounding on the case, it just grounds out the coil to shut it off , when disconnected you will have spark if the coil is good.....shut it off with the choke if ya start it

No spark

Check the side stand kill switch if your bike has one. It kills the engine so that you don’t start out with the side stand down. If broken or out of adjustment, it would kill the spark. Check for a broken wire at the side stand switch and coupler. Try moving the kill switch by hand. If that doesn’t work then wire a jumper around the switch to bypass it. Check the fuses. How good is the battery? Try a jump start from your car battery. Is the handlebar kill switch on? Check the operation of the ignition switch and all kill switches with a volt ohmmeter. Install new spark plug.

If that doesn't do it, check the wiring harness. Did a wire come unplugged? Are all wires clean and with solid connections? Any abraded or pinched wires? Is the bike in neutral and the neutral light is lit up? If no neutral light, check the neutral switch and neutral switch wire on center casing. If still no spark, get CDI system and coils checked at the dealers shop. You can screw up a CDI unit checking it yourself.

Well, if you have made sure that the kill switch wire isn't grounded somewhere, then it is probably the ignition module (coil). But before you buy a new coil, try sanding the side of the flywheel and the metal piece that faces the flywheel, (this is part of the coil).

I can not get a spark on my dominator ,checked the kill switch pulse generator ,new coil new plug ,

Did you replace the plug wires? are the spark plugs fouled or gapped improperly? Check to see if you have power going into the coil, if you do then there should be spark coming out of the coil, and if there is and your wires and plugs are proper and servicable then you should have ignition.

2006 crf100 no spark

You have 2 basic possibilities,
  • A kill switch is active
  • The ignition control module has gone bad
The stock spark plug is an NGK CR7HSA. Is a kill switch on? Does the side stand have a kill switch? Is it working properly? Check the operation of all kill switches with a volt ohmmeter.

Check the wiring harness. Did a wire come unplugged? Are all wires clean and with solid connections? Any abraded or pinched wires? If still no spark, get CDI system checked at the dealers shop.

A top rating on this answer? Thanks!
