You did not let te stain dry in between the coats. You need to let it dry for 24 hrs and then take some 220 sand paper and sand the top to get the rough off. Be careful not to sand it to hard od you will remove the finish.

Good Luck

I under stand that. I have made alot of custom furniture in my life. What has happend is the varnish has lifted the hairs in the wood. You will also need to put another coat on after you sand to reseal the hairs that you removed. You also might want to step up the sand paper to like 330 or 400 on the last time. I have had some funiture that I had to do this 5 time just to get the surfuce smooth.

What do I use to refinish a pine table?

Do you want it to still have the pine look?
if so, use a clear oil or sealer/varnish/urethane.
if not, stain it whatever family/species of wood you like.
then seal it.

Coffee table corner damaged in shipping ,table top made of plywood

Might take a lil work so:

Hard way: Take a palm sander with 80 grit paper and sand down the side where it is broken, till all the splinters and roughness is sanded out( don't sand to much or it will become uneven, take some wood putty, using a spreader, spread the putty on the end till you get a nice smooth spread. let stand for 24 to 48 hours. Then take your sander and go with the curve of the table and begin to sand it till it slowly matches the rest, Apply varnish that matches, and some end bumpers strip you get from your local hardwood store (exp: lowes, home depot)and WA- la.

Lazy person way; Pick up the phones " Hey! I just received this broken on one side, please send me another one, or refund my money back.

Super lazy person: Hey!...thas not to shabby ....gives it...character...yeah....

How to bring back the color....what to put on it????

In this article you will learn the best way to spray paint anything from wood frames auto parts.
Difficulty: Moderate Instructions things you'll need:

  • primer
  • spray paint
  • microfiber towl
  • 300 grit sandpaper
  • 800, 1000,1200,1500 grit wetsand paper
  • 2000 grit wetsand paper
  • clearcoat
  • rubbing compound
  • medium cut polish
  • wax
    • 1

Start by removing the part that needs to be painted. (You can also tape around it, but be careful about overs pray)

    • 2

Sand the part with the 300 grit sand paper until the surface is a little rough. This is necessary for the primer to bond with the surface. After sanding wipe down the part with micro fiber cloth.

    • 3

Lightly spray the part with primer. A few light coats are better than one heavy coat. Make sure to allow proper drying time between coats.

    • 4

After a few light coats of primer have been applied, wetsand with the 800 grit sandpaper. After wet sanding, wipe again with micro fiber cloth.

    • 5

Now it is time to apply the color. When spraying the spray paint make sure to use smooth even passes across what is being painted. Do not start painting on top of the part because the paint will be heavier in that area. When painting you want to press and release the button to the side of the product being painted. Again a few light coats are better than one heavy one and make sure to allow proper drying time between coats.

    • 6

After you are satisfied with the color, wetsand with 800 grit sandpaper and then wipe with micro fiber cloth.

    • 7

Now it is time for the clear coat. Spray the clear coat the same way as the spray paint. Only one or two light coats are needed. Allow the clear coat plenty of time to dry as this is the layer that you will see most. You don't want any fingerprints on your final surface!

    • 8

After the clear coat has had more than enough time to dry, You now want to wetsand with the 800 grit, then the 1000 grit, then 1200, then 1500, and finally the 2000 grit sandpaper. This should remove any heavier spots in the clear coat and will polish your painted product up very nicely.

    • 9

Next you need to remove the scratches left by the 2000 grit. For this you will need to buff the surface with rubbing compound.

    • 10

Now you need to buff the surface with a medium cut polish to give the surface a nice glassy look.

    • 11

Whether it be exterior or interior parts that have been painted, I always add a couple coats of wax to the surface. This acts as a protectant to the clearcoat and gives it a nice smooth feel and also helps repel dirt.

We removed all the wood trimming/doors inside our Catalina 30 sailboat. We want to do a clean/revive type job on it. The wood is teak. How do we proceed?

if the teak is bare teak --- a light sanding with a sanding block should be good and then follow that with a good rub down of teak oil ( sea-fin teak oil is a good brand ).
if the teak is finished teak --- and you want to remove the old finish and sand out any stains(?) then you will need to use a more aggressive sand paper and finish off with a lighter sand paper,, clean up with acetone, use a good tack cloth and start applying varnish -- the best varnish that I have ever used is a brand called ' Epiphanes ' and you will either want to use a ' matte ' finish or a ' gloss /semi-gloss ' finish. personally I have found the 'matte ' finish to look better and it brings out the true beauty of the teak itself. ( make sure you follow the sanding instructions between coats as this will give you a nice smooth and sharp look ).
enjoy the water ---

I am removing Formica and refinishing a teak wood yacht table. I got the Formica removed(no easy task) and I am wondering how best to go about refinishing this table. There is a little glue left(this table...

Clean the remaining glue off with naptha. If the table has no gouges, I would start with a 180 grit paper and work my way up to a 400 grit. You can use a polyurethane finis which can be satin or glossy. I prefer the satin, but you may want to experiment on a different pice of wood to see what you like. Use deliberate slow strokes when using a urethane so as not to induce air bubbles into the finish. If you want more than one coat, fine sand with a 600 grit between coats when dry and apply the next one. With glossy finish, the more coats the greater the visual depth appears to be.
