That's what usually breaks if you have a 478 pin cpu. Should be available in any computer shop. If the actual metal bracket on the heatsink broke you will have to buy a new fan/heatsink. Both solutions are cheap.

Hp dv6000 attempts to start led lights come on then shuts down repeats this process

The hp dv6000 has a video card issue that is very comman the cpu heatsink and the video card and conncted to the same copper heatsink and what happens is the video card overheats and the pins that are soldered to the board come loose now there is a couple of ways to fix it option a is to take the laptop apart and remove the motherboard and heatsink and the cpu chip then locate the video chip and isolate the video card and heat it up to remelt the solder points this can be done by taking a aluminum can and cuting out the square that is same size of video chipthen with a heat gun heat up the chip so the solder joints remelt to the board but BE VERY CARFUL IF YOU OVER HEAT THE CHIP IT WILL MELT once the chip has cooled then reistall your cpu chip add new thermal paste and get a flat square piece of copper the size of the cpu chip and put it on the cpu chip then add more thermal paste and put the heat sink back on and reassemble the laptop and if you didnt damage the chip it should fire right up option b is to buy a replacement motherboard that has the upgraged heatsink installed and put that in but make sure yoyu order the right board check the replacement part number sticker on the motherboard and make sure yoyu order the right one i have done this process to about 200 of these hp dv6000 and they are still working today

How to install cpu on HP Pavilion a1140n Desktop PC

Remove the heatsink and fan assembly over the CPU.
The CPU is locked in the CPU socket, lift up the locking lever to release the CPU.
The new CPU needs to be inserted into the socket and then lower the lever to lock the CPU into the socket.
Coat the CPU with heatsink compound before fitting the heatsink and fan.

My hp pavilion zx5000 overheats and shuts down unexpectedly, i am sure of this because i downloaded speedfan and the temp is at least 216 f. i am going to put heat conductivity grease on it.

Try to open the cover of the laptop and clean the vents in the heat sink area and the cpu area. It is very likely those vents have been filled up with dust and down. Remove and clean the heat sink that covers the cpu, also.

Hp pavillion dv1000 notebook cant hear or see fan running

First thing you should try is blowing out the vents / fan with some compressed air.

Make sure you remove the battery before doing this, I also recommend letting the computer sit for 5 minutes before you power it back up again.

If that doesn't solve your problem you might need to take the laptop apart and reapply thermal paste to the cpu and heatsink.

Let us know what happens.

Best of luck!

Shut off after 5 minutes

sounds like overheating. could be the heatsink on the cpu needs to be cleaned and re sat with new grease or a fan has stopped or is blocked. I would take apart the CPU housing and fan and check it all or take it to a local shop or send it to us www.qualit-uk.com/laptop-repair.htm

Laptop trouble

Most likely thermal shutdown as these are known for this issue. You need to take it apart and remove the garbage thermal pad off the heatsink, Clean the CPU and heatsink completely, Apply a small ammt of thermal paste and reassemble. Be advised it will eventually Short Caps and MOSFET's shutting down leaving you with a dead machine. Good luck!
