Does audio give directions? If not it's likely that the Voice file is corrupted or disabled. To see if it's disabled press Tools, then press Settings Then press Language and see if there's a Voice displayed. If not press Voice and select one from the list. If there's no voice there connect your satnav to the computer. Download the latest version of Webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27 and when it's installed click next. You'll get an option to download various voices. Tick the ones you want and click next to download them. When they've downloaded you'll be able to go back to tools, settings, language and select the voice of your choice.

On the other hand if it's only updating that the voice doesn't say select a different voice. Some of the voices don't say it while others do.

Nuvi 2555mt lost voice

First, do you hear beeps when you press a selection on the screen? If yes, then your speaker is OK and the audio circuits are OK in the unit. Make sure that you have a voice selected in the voice menu. Some units have an audio mixer screen and provide different volume settings for navigation (voice) and system (beeps). maybe the volume for the voice (navigation) is set to off. If you don't hear any beeps when you touch the screen AND you don't hear a voice, make sure that the sound isn't set to be muted. If the sound isn't muted, you may have a defective speaker. I have a Realtek audio chip on an Asus motherboard and a set of 5.1 speakers installed on my pc. I have set up my sound settings at 7.1 in order to play all speakers. They all heard when I check them...

If your motherboard audio chip supports 7.1 audio then it should support 5.1 too. If so then go for 5.1 since choosing 7.1 and using a 5.1 system will result in loss of audio as you are missing two channels (6 channels on 5.1 and 8 channels on 7.1). The 5.1/7.1 option through the sound settings should emulate surround audio through almost all players. For VLC, try the following:
  1. Go to [Preferences]--->Check [Advanced Options]
  2. Then expand [Audio] and select [Output Modules]
  3. Change [Audio Output Module] to [Win32 WaveOut]
  4. Click save and restart VLC
Hope that helps. If not try Media Player Classic instead of VLC. It supports 7.1 and other surround audio by default.

When i switch on the sound,a feeble sound (in high frequency) is heard from my laptop

I think you have adjusted the volume label as height level as well as the media player also.Always you would set the volume for media player, and the audio device volume, set as medium.

In another way, I think you have adjusted the equalizer in high performance ,if am I right please set the equalizer as default.

Hope it will help you.

After re-installing winXP, my notebook cannot find any updated audio driver from the web, and thus cannot play any music file except the system beeping sounds.

Do you have a media player application like Windows Media Player? Also, go to the manufacturer's website. Most of them will list audio drivers. If that doesn't work, look in the device manager to try to identify the audio hardware and go to their website for drivers.

I have microsoft streets and trips 2007 and I have media player 11

How can you get MS-Streets & Trips 2007 into full screen. It will only open in a 6 x 6 window and far too hard to read. When I first used S/T it was full screen but have not been able to get back there since. Have tried several time re-intalling and read everything I can find and still no go. Any information will be appreciated.

Thanks Larry
