SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

My canon powershot sd950 is not turning on after I finished a travel by plane. The battery is brand new and when I shake the camera there is no noise.

I had the same problem. I sent it to Canon and it came back today fixed and free of charge even though I've had it for almost two years. Then I tried using it again tonight and it doesn't work again. I charged the battery pack, still not working. I found out that this camera has a service notice for it on canon's site. My camera does have one of the serial #'s they describe. I guess they fixed it for free b/c it was a loose screw but now it's come loose again the same day. How frustrating! I have to have a camera for tomorrow so I'll go buy another camera. I'll still send this one back to Canon and see what they do this time.
Here's the link so you can check your serial #. Good luck!

Camera in water

Remove the battery, card and bake it in the sun(window sill, front seat of the car) with any plugs or doors open for a few days. Same as cell phones. Good luck. It doesn't always work.

My Canon Powershot SD950 IS only allows me to take 8 photos at a time before it tells me that the memory is full. It is the original memory card it came with (32 mb) and it has done this since I first got...

There is nothing wrong with your camera. When you set the resolution to Large and compression to Fine, each picture needs about 3M space. So for a 32M SD card, you can take about 9 pictures. To take more pictures, you can set to low resolution and high compression which means that you’ll lost the picture quality; or use bigger size memory card. I would like to suggest you to buy a bigger card to keep the picture quality.
A chat on page 219 of user manual shows the estimated capacities of memory cards.

I have the polaroid i830..cameras locked i think

Remove the memory card from the camera (it is next to the batteries). On the side of the card is a little switch, set this to unlocked. You will then be able to write to the card again.

Protected card pops up and I cant take any pics?

Remove the card from the camera.  There is a small slide tab on the card which shows a picture of a lock.  Move the slide tab to the unlock position.  If this doesn't fix it, replace the card.

Card locked

Take the SD card out of the camera, and check along one of the edges for a little tab which can be moved back and forth. In one direction (often marked on the card) it is "locked" so no changes can be made to the files on the card, nor can any new files be written to the card. In the other direction, the card is unlocked.
