Today core 2 duo systems are on the top!
also a good think to look for is atleast 2GB or more of ram memory. If the laptop has vista then 2GB is minimum I recommend.

what will you use the pc for? Il know how to guide you better ones I know that since gameing and working require difrent things, or you could wind up paying too much for something you have no use for.

NEC VERSA M540 - Performing slow

Try downloading ad-aware. Run it and see if that speeds it up. It is a spyware killer (pop-ups), also clean your hard drive up with a disk clean up option and a degragmentation. If it is still running slow, try a ram up grade.

My computer is really slow going into differnt sites....the compressor fan is slow to start up...had my computer stripped down and tuned up, but it's still slow...they said the cpu is showing its age,...

Your computer going slow could be for the following reasons: 1 Not enough RAM - remove unwanted files by cleaning the disc. Also defragment the computer. Increase the RAM 2 Virus - remove the virus 3 If you do the above you will see the improvement and no need to have a new cpu

Utilizing a hi-speed host controller.

Ah, this is likely talking about USB 2.0. You can usually buy a PCI card that will let you add this capability to your PC. But I doubt you'll really see a huge difference unless you print out large files.

Also how old is your PC? USB 2.0 has been mainstream for the past 5-6 years and almost all computers since then have had it. If it is within this time frame, it may be something you just have to enable on your motherboard. You may want to check your motherboard manual or the manufacturers of your PC. Good Luck!

You are worrying about nothing.

Intel Pentium Dual Core and Intel Celeron Dual Core are both Intel Core Dual processors.

The performance rate is mesured compared to a single core processor so your 2.2GHz dual core will do the same amount of work as a 4.95GHz single core.

Dual Core VS Single Core

basically it depends on the Bus speed of the processor. if u r using the single core processor with high bus speed it means u r using faster one then the low bus speed core 2 duo. n the other thing is depends on the system memory (ram), if the Ram is compatible with Processor speed n processor bus speed, ur pc will work faster...

Hi there.
The computer is probably struggling with the clock speed of the new processor.
Did you reset the BIOS setting?
If you didn't go into the BIOS and set it to default settings, hit F10, save the changes and restart the computer.
Clock speeds should now be reset and the computer should work. Also you should make sure the system memory is seated properly.

Good luck

What is basic difference between dual core and core2dual

Technically there is no difference depending on the different one you get. They will all function the same but there are different speeds that you can find out by searching for Dual Core Processors.

How can I overclock my 166mhz classic computer?

Overclocking is not really recommended to be done by normal users. For overclocking your computer, you should have extensive knowledge of the hardware of your computer.

Overclocking may result in a totally non-working computer, burnt up Processor and motherboard and the likes. Also, overclocking results in heating problems, so you need to have made the arrangements for taking care of this heat issue.

Basically overclocking means increasing the Clock Speed of your comuter. Suppose I say that I have a Pentium 4 - 2.4GHz computer, the 2.4GHz part is the clock speed, which is increase in overclocking. Surely the computers with higher clock speeds work faster but that comes at a price. A small mistake on your part and your computer is no more working.

There are various Forums and sites on the internet that discuss Overclocking and its intricacies in greater detail.
Here's a pointer:

PS: Search google for "overclocking" and you should get a lotta links to work with.
