Been there, done that. These people are rogues. No Hitachi products for me. Got a nice replacement, cheaper and better SONY XBR4 Bravia 52" LCD TV delivered and installed by Amazon.com for about $2800.

Blue grid popping up and filling the screen

You have a defective light engine. Here's what you can do..we just went through this about 2 months ago. Call Hitachis custimer RELATIONS department at 800-654-7013 and tell them you have a defective light engine. When you initially call, they will act like they've never heard of this problem but they have. They will give you the name of some certified Hitachi Dealers in your area. Once you call a tech to come out and confirm that it's a bad light engine, call Hitachis customer relations department back and they will call the dealer directly to confirm the problem. Once the problem has been confirmed by the dealer, Hitachi will send the part directly to the dealer to come out and install.

Now here's the deal. Hitachi will repalce the part (cost around $1500) but they will ask you to cover the install. Our install was $400 but others on this board have paid less (range $200-$500). If your set is still under warranty, Hitachi will pay for the install and the part but regardless if your set is under warranty or not, they ARE paying for a brand new light engine.

A couple of quick things to look out for, please do not let any dealer or store tell you that you have to pay for this part. Hitachi is covering the cost. They have not recalled this part but they are replacing it after you have a tech out to confirm the problem. Also, only deal with the CUSTOMER RELATIONS department and not Hitachis customer service department. The regular customer relations department is no help at all. Good Luck:)

Blue line

Uh Oh! blue screen of death. Your light engine has warped a little from overheating and is distorting the picture.

My suggestion to you is to get on the phone with hitachi and start complaining, then keep complaining until they agree to pay for it. You may have to get the problem diagnosed by a pro before they agree to pay for it though.
Hope ya fix it!

Hitachi tv

You have a defective light engine and Hitachi knows about it. You need to contact Hitachis customer RELATIONS department (not regular customer service) at 800-654-7013 and tell Hitachi what the TV is doing and that you have a bad light engine. Initially, they will act they have not heard of the problem but they will give you the names of some certified dealers in your area. Once you have the tech come out and they tell you that it's a bad light engine, call Hitachi back, at the 800 # I listed and tell them what the tech said. They will call the dealer directly and then Hitachi will send a brand new light engine to the dealer and Hitach will cover the cost of the part (part cost around $1500)

Here's the kicker, if your TV is not still under warranty, Hitachi will cover the part but you will have to pay the install. We recently had this happen to us and our install was $400...worth it to us on a $3600 TV thats only 3 years old.

Please deal only with Hitachi customer relations and DO NOT let any dealer or store where you purchased the TV tell you that you will have to pay the $1500 for the part. Hitachi has not recalled this part but they are aware of it and they will send it out to the dealer your using and HITACHI will pay for the part...you only pay the install. Good Luck!

You have a defective light engine. Replacing the bulb will not solve the problem. We just went through this so here's what you need to do. Call Hitachi's customer service relations (not customer service) at 800-654-7013 and tell them what the set is doing and that you have a bad light engine. Hitachi will act like they have not heard of this but will give you the names of certified dealers in your area. Once you have a tech come out and confirm the problem, call Hitachi back, at the number listed above and they will call the dealer to confirm the problem. Once they confirm it with the dealer, they will send out a brand new light engine to the dealer ( at Hitachis expense, around $1500) and the tech will come to your home and install it.

Here's the kicker, if you're not still under warranty, you will have to pay the install. Our install was $400 but worth it to us on a $
$3600 set we've only had 3 years and we've loved. PLEASE DO NOT let any dealer or department store tell you that you have to pay for this part. Hitachi has not recalled the part but they are paying for it. It sounds like from some of the other post on this board that some dealers and department stores where the set was bought are trying to make money off of the free part Hitachi is sending and PLEASE deal only with Hitachi's customer relations department at the 800 number I listed above. Hitachi's regular customer service will be no help to you. Good Luck:)

Also, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE UNDER WARRANTY FOR HITACHI TO COVER THE PART. You only pay the install. Our TV is 3+ years old. They are doing this in hopes of not having to be required to do a recall on this part (would cost them lots more). It should run pretty smoothly with Customer Relations.

You have a defective light engine and here's what you need to do...we just went through this. You need to call Hitachi's customer relations department at 800-654-7013. DO NOT call regular customer service. When you first call them, tell them what your set is doing and that you have a bad light engine. They will initially act like they have no idea what you're talking about but they will give you some names and numbers to some local Hitachi dealers. Call one of the dealers to come out and once the problem has been confirmed, call Hitachis customer relations department back. All of a sudden they will have heard of the problem and they will call the dealer to confirm it.

Once they confirm it with the dealer, they will send the part directly to the dealer and the dealer will call you to set up a date/time to come out and install it. Hitachi got our new light engine to the dealer in 2 days.

Now, Hitachi will cover the cost of the light engine (around $1500) regardless if you're still under warranty or not. You will have to pay for the install. Our install was $400. DO NOT let any dealer tell you that you have to pay for the part once they get it from Hitachi...most reputable dealers will not try to do that. Hitachi will cover the cost of the part, all you pay is for the install.

Please deal only with Hitachi customer relations. Their regular customer service department will have you chasing your tail. Once our light engine was replaced, the TV is like brand new. Good Luck!

Red Cloud

You do have the infamous red cloud as we call it. Here's what you need to do and YES, you can have it done by Christmas. Call Hitachis Customer Relations # at 800-654-7013 and tell them you have a defective light engine. They will act like they have no idea what you're talking about but ask them to give you some names of Hitachi certified dealers in your area. Once you've had a tech come out (you will have to pay for them to come out unless you're still under warranty) and they diagnois the problem, call Hitachi customer relations back. Tell them that you had the tech out and that you have a defective light engine. They will send the part to the certified dealer that came out and the dealer should call you to schedule the install.

Now here's the deal, Hitachi will cover the part (around $1500) but they will ask you to cover the install. We just had this done and the tech did the install at our home for $400. It was well worth the $400 to us considering we paid $3600 when we bought the TV 3+ years ago. To my knowlege, Hitachi has not recalled this part. You first have to have it looked at and then they will send out the part.

Please deal only with customer relations and not customer service. I listed the 800 number at the beginning of this post. Everything went very smoothly for us. Don't get frustrated if you call them the first time and they act like they have no idea what you're talking about. Go ahead and get some local dealer names from them and once the problem is confirmed, Hitachi will send the part out and have you up and going way before Christmas...if you call them soon. They had the part to the dealer we used in 2 days. DO NOT LET THE DEALER TELL YOU THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY THE $1500 FOR THE PART!!!!!!!!!! There have been some post that some of the dealers are doing that. Hitachi will replace the part for free! All you pay is for the install. I don't want to sound like a broken record, just want you to have all of the information! Good Luck!

I don't think it's a prob/with the lamp try something simpler, poss cable connections (dontknow if you've already tried new componet cables/but that's where I would look first. If thats no good poss the color calibration would be a factor.

We had the same problem and the infamous "red cloud" is a light engine defect and Hitachi knows about it. After calling Hitachis Customer Relations Department (not customer service) they referred us to a local Hitachi dealer that diagnosed the problem in less than a minute as a "light engine defect". We called Hitachi back and once they confirmed this with the dealer, they shipped the part to the dealer and the tech came out and installed it...looks like brand new TV. Here's the deal though, when you first call Hitachi, they will act like they've never heard of the problem until you have theTV looked at. They will pay for the part...$1500 but they will ask you to pay the install. Our install was $400...worth it to us on a $3600 TV. Be sure and call the Hitachi customer relations department and not regular customer service...you will get no where with them. The Customer Relations Department # is 800-654-7013. Good Luck!
