Question about Kidde Nighthawk Combo Gas/co Detector

1 Answer

Good Morning, My nighthawk CO detector went off with a loud continuous alarm this morning while all were sleeping. I reset it and it is not alarming now. I pushed the peak button and it reads 19. The number it reads is 245 when I pushed the test/reset button. I have a second CO detector in the house and it didn't go off. Any ideas what could have triggered this to alarm? Also, is the reading of 19 significant? Thank you, Carla Hornung

When a carbon monoxide detector sends an alarm, there is cause for concern. You mentioned that the other CO detector did not go off, but maybe it is too far away to monitor the carbon monoxide levels that was in this area.

The instructions in your manual would direct you to evacuate the house immediately and ventilate. Your next step is to get a professional to inspect what may have caused the carbon monoxide leak.

A reading of 19 indicates that there is carbon monoxide in that area of your house, unless your CO detector is not working properly. Your local fire department will give you the best advice for what action to take when a carbon monoxide detector sends an alarm.

Be safe, don't assume a carbon monoxide alarm is cause by a defective CO detector, have it inspected.

4 beeps with pauses for 2 year old carbon monoxide detector

I'm pretty sure that indicates an alarm. The pattern is referred to as "temporal 4" which is the alarm pattern for CO. Either your device is in a bad place or there is an intermittent CO leak which is exceeding the ppm (parts per million) threshold for a given time period. The instructions for the device will tell you what that number is. If you have more than one of these, I would try swapping them to determine if the problen is with the device or the location. Good luck!

Golding93, you could very well have elevated levels of CO in your home. You should leave your house immediately and call the fire department. However, if your CO alarm is 7 years old, it could also be the alarm's end-of-life warning. Regardless, you should definitely call the fire department to have everything checked out. If you need additional assistance with your CO alarm, please call our customer service line at 1-800-880-6788. Thanks for being a Kidde customer. We appreciate your business!

My nighthawk carbon monoxide alaram is keep biping

Check your user manual for issues dealing with beeping alarms.

Your local fire department may be able to help educate you on the proper installation and use of Carbon Monoxide Detectors. A CO detector alarm should be taken seriously and you should follow the manufacturer procedures included in the package.

NEVER dismiss a Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm for a malfunction.
ALWAYS treat an alarm as an emergency and follow manufacturer procedures.

Check our website for more industry information or for buying replacement Carbon Monoxide Detectors.

Periodically emits 3 loud beeps. Displays 888.

The CO detectors require replacement of the battery periodically.

Unlike smoke detectors, the detector element itself also requires replacement as well as the battery and is sold as a module with the battery attached.

Gas alarm 220

All gas detectors have an internal sensor that can be "poisoned" if you are not careful. They are especially sensitive to cleaning products that contain amonnia or aerosal spray cans. If these products are used in close proximity to the detector there is a good chance of permanently damaging the unit. The only recourse you have is to buy a new unit.

Carbon monoxide is on

When a Carbon Monoxide Detector alarm goes off, you should follow the procedures that came with the manufacturer manual. Even when the alarm sounds, you cannot smell, taste, or see this dangerous silent killer known as Carbon Monoxide.

Have your house checked by your local fire department for possible levels of CO gas readings. If this all checks out, you can go online to Kidde Nighthawk website and find the manual for your Carbon Monoxide detector model.

Hopefully, you found your solution since you posted this question back in Dec, 2008. Go to my website to read industry information and to view most Brands and Models of Carbon Monoxide Detectors.

Nighthawk model kn-cop-dp, when plugged in i get an error code

I have the same problem....The answer is the detector has died. This kind of detector has a warranty for 5 years. Mine was assembled 8 years ago and just died this morning. 8 years is good for this kind of detector. The protection device inside wears out in time. Thats why you keep getting an err message.

Gas code 210

Does the co alarm sound and display show 210? This means you have 210ppm co. This is not good. Are both the gas and co alarms goig off? Try resetting but if it's working properly you've got a pronlem. Check this link for further info: http://www.kiddeus.com/utcfs/ws-384/Assets/900-0113.pdf
