The starting componets on the compressor are going or gone. It can be repaced with a three in one start boost kit available at any appliance parts place. Just pull off the parts attached to the compressor and replace with this part.

It is quite possible that your contactor of the compressor which is also a safety cut off unit could be chattering since the contacts are worn out and for every attempt to start it get a low current and thereby trips off. Henc eyou mustt take this unit out from the rear back under side and trry to make an attempt to clean. If not replacement will be the best solution but make sure you do with the same type and rating. If the fault is recurring then the starting currrent of the fridge must be checked as the motor might be taking too much current to start. Check the capacitor of the motor and try to replace if doubtful. hope you try this out. Good day

The air conditioner makes a loud sound when the ac trys to kick in. When i put it under fan it works fine and makes no noise.

Sounds like your compressor is seized/stuck and the unit needs a new compressor. If this is the case it should make a loud buzzing noise for a while and then click when it stops trying.

I have a 10 SEER heat pump about 16 years old, yesterday I notice that the outside unit was making a loud click noise in the heating mode. It's very close to the defrost electrical curcuit board. The unit...

Depending on make and model sounds like a check valve clicking. It can sound like it is coming from that area. You say your unit is 16 years old. Honeywell did servey on unit 10 years and older and found out they loose 25% effeicency after 10 years. You may think about changing it out. With the new tax credits you can get a 16 seer unit for the price of a 13 seer. I went from a 10 to 15 seer and my power bill dropped 40%. Rus.
