Hello there

You may have a problem with the range's gas flow. If you smell gas coming from the range, make sure that all pilot lights are lit (if applicable) and all of the controls are set to "off."

If you can still smell gas, the range could have a leak.call the gas company so that they can shut off the gas to your home. After that, call a repair person to inspect the cooktop for possible gas delivery issues.

New cooktop ! long flame yellow tips black deposits on pans

This is probably the result of inefficient burning of gas resulting in sooty deposits being left on the base of saucepans etc. It may be that the gas jets are blocked with spilt material and need cleaning. Try removing the gas hub with the gas jet holes in and sliding a paperclip sized rod into each hole to dislodge any material. Blow in the holes afterwards to force any loose material out. If this fails you may need a gas fitter to adjust the gas mixture regulators.

How to remove the top panel of the cooktop?

To remove the top so that you can replace the electrodes, you just need to pull all the burner grates off and knobs. Then remove all the burner caps and rings off so that all you're left with is the cooktop and the burner bases. There are screws going into each burner base. Remove all the screws and the burner bases will pull up and off and then you can pull the top of the cooktop up and off.

Maytag/Jenn Air JGD8130ADS one burner will not ignite but all others will. solutions?

Turn off gas. Remove the cartridge and remove back cover. Clean the ignition spark area. Re-install the cartridge without the back cover. Try to ignite the spark. If the spark works. The spark wire is too close to the back cover. Use an electrical tape to insulate the wire from the back cover. Other swap the two spark to see if you have a faulty spark.

The regulator seems to be closing off completely, and not flowing gas (LPG). We have converted cooktop from natural gas to propane per instructions manual -- changed orifice spuds, converted regulator and...

I HATE TO TRY AND EXPLANE THIS FOR FEAR SOME THING MAY GO WRONG DID YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. FROM NATURAL GAS TO LP YOU SHOULD OF HAD TO CHANGE THE POSISTION OF THE ORVICE IN THE REGULATER THAT IS WHY YOU ARN'T GETTING THRU THE REGULATOR CHECK YOUR DIRECTIONS AGAIN SOME TIME YOU HAVE TO THIGHTEN THE NUT ON THE REGULATOR SO IT DISTORTS THE ORFICE TO LP, AND SOME MODELS YOU HAVE TO TURN THE ORFICE OVER. BECAREFUL AND TRY AGAIN

MAYTAG GAS STOVE

One or more of the control switches has shorted out. This usually happens when you wash the knobs. Water stays in the holes and runs down the shaft when you put them back on. Maytag /Jenn air have had recalls on some models for this problem as it can start a fire under some conditions. UNPLUG THE COOKTOP UNTIL THIS IS FIXED!!! You can still light it with a match. Check Maytags Web site for information on this . Some switches can be seperated from the gas valve and replaced sererately. This may be worth fixing. Remove the wires from all switches and re connect them one at a time until you find out which switch/s are bad. If this was left clicking for too long you might have burned out the spark module. If the switches are part of the gas valve, and more than one is bad it may not make sense to fix the cooktop. Remember you can always just disconnect the switch that is bad , use the rest and light the broken burner with a long reach lighter.

Pilot Flame is too high.

You will only need to purge air from the supply if this is newly installed or if you have recently disconnected / reconnected the main gas supply for some reason. Otherwise, you can just skip that step.

If you do need to purge the system do the following:

MAKE SURE THE ROOM IS WELL VENTED TO OUTSIDE

REMOVE ALL SOURCES OF POSSIBLE IGNITION

Fully open the largest burner and allow to run until gas is smelt.

There is no way to say exactly how long it needs to be open as this very much depends on the length of pipework feeding the appliance, but in a typical domestic installation, this shouldn't be more than about 5-10 seconds.

Hope this helps,

Matt
