Your machine has been locked because there is too much pressure inside the machine. Unplug it for about 24 hours and leave it with the lever up. After that it should come open. Carefully clean out the tiny nozzles to make sure there isn't any loose coffee hanging out in there. This happens if you make your own pods. Just be grateful that it didn't explode all over your kitchen!

SOURCE: lid is stuck shut on my senseo

I just had this same problem. The seal is stuck and might have coffee jammed in it. I unplugged it. Then I pushed down on the lid and pulled up at the same time. It opened for me. I hope this helps.

The Phillips electronics web site says that pod tube is plugged and now a vacuum has been set up preventing you from opening. It says "unplug it; leave it at room temperature for 24 hours or longer and then try to open. It states you may have to apply a lot of force to get it open. Once you get open clean the pod tube regularly to prevent this from happening!!!!!! Only use recommended pods in the coffee maker. Go to

The locks shut due to a pressure build up in the pod chamber usually caused by a blocked filter in the centre of the pod holder.

The only way to open the unit is to releive the pressure. The pressure will normally reduce over time, the duration being determined by the pressure build up, condition of pod seals and the strength of the blockage.

A quick DIY solution: (small cable tie and screwdriver required)
Un plug the unit from the mains:
Remove the water container and prise open the rear snap fit panel of the unit carefully using a screwdriver to expose the internal workings, the overflow pipe at the top of the cover must be disconnected to gain enough access to work on the unit.
.The small metal boiler in the centre of the unit is used to heat the water for the machine, if the boiler is still hot allow it to cool down sufficiently for work to commence.
The exit pipe at the top of the boiler feeds directly to the pod chamber, if you squeeze this pipe you will feel that it is under pressure. Cut the cable tie connecting the pipe to the boiler (be careful, dont cut the pipe) and remove the pipe to release the pressure, a small ammount of water will be released during the procedure. The lid should open.
Reconnect the pipe to the boiler replace the cable tie, refit the rear cover making sure to push the overflow pipe back on before you snap the cover shut.
Remove the pod holder and clear the blockage blow through the holder in the reverse direction to ensure the filter is clear.
Replace the pod holder and pour a small amount of water on to it. The water should exit through the delivery spouts if the path is clear.
JOB Done.

Philips Senseo HD7810 /40 stops midway brewing

This lookes like a problem I experienced with another model of the Senseo. The problem here was the 470nF X-capacitor in the capacitive power supply. (230VAC models) Try replacing.

I have the Senseo Latte 7850 machine. Seems to work fine and does all the things it should but the resulting drink is not very hot at all. Same story with hot chocolate drinks. Is there way to adjust...

If you don't have the machine all that long I'd make use of the warranty. Opening it yourself will void the warranty . .

Some makes and models do have controls on the PCB which allow for water temperature adjustment and cup filling level, but you'd need to open the machine to get to them.

Accidently left coffee pod in coffee pot while went on vacation now the machine smells really bad . tryed vinegar but nothing seems to help

Try the rinsing procedure that's in the manual, and use citric acid. The parts that usually come into contact with hot water or coffe can also be cleaned in a dish washer.

Machine performs all functions except heating the water, is this fatal?

Probably a defective heater element. Having it replaced just might cost more than a new machine . .
