Question about Dell Computers & Internet
I bought this computer last fall and it had Windows Vista on it.They said I would shortly get a Win7 disc and I downloaded it 4 or 5 months ago and have had no problems downloding anything. The message for the premium chat says it is compatible with Win7.It downloads about 5% or less and I get a message that says:Error opening file for writing:C:/Program files (x86)\Fixya\Fixyautility.exe For options it gives me Abort which aborts,Retry which does nothing, and Ignore which kills it.When I right click on the Fixya utility symbol on my desktop, and check properties,I click on compatability,Then I check the box for "run this program in compatability mode for:When I open the drop down box there is an option for every other version of windows EXCEPT Win7.I would imagine this is the issue?Troubleshooting option does no good.Anyone have an idea?I have IE7 also.I do not want IE8.I have considered putting Vista back on long ago just because I kind of liked it better.Windows forum has 1,000s of questions and 10 times the answers, but I would prefer to ask fellow fixers.Thanx icantry
Well to be honest with you the windows 7 stabilty when it comes to IE8 is more better than the vista running it...
I would suggest this, you can uninstall the utility and then try to re install it..
Reinstall it using the option to "Run as Administrator"
So locate the file when you download it..
Save it to a locateable folder on the computer, then u right click on the file and you will get the option to "run as administrator" that normally fixes errors life these in windows7 it is usually a writing privillage error, so when u give it admisitrator privillage it should work...

A lot of the experts don't use the utility.
I have tried it on XP,Vista,Win 7 with both IE 7 and 8 with no real problems up until a couple of months ago when one of my computes I used mainly for FixYa went off the rails.
I un-installed it and the computer was fine afterwards so I have not put it back on
Presently win 7 and IE 8 on the box I use here.
FixYa also had some malware issues but to get the full story visit the lounge and ask in there.
There is no real need to use the utility if you just leave a FixYa page open with your status set to available.
Most people who have tested both sides of this find no difference between using the utility or leaving a page open as per obtaining premium questions.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
