Question about Pentair Minimax NT Heater

The fan in the heater turns on but the heater does not turn on.

The red service light stays on and the heater light will not come on. I replaced the ignition control module and it still happens. Heater will not come on.

Probably a bad circuit board. I have the same problem once the water gets above about 82 deg. I tried cleaning the filter and strainer, cleaning out the heat exchanger, replacing the temperature limit switches, bypassing the pressure switch, and cleaning the ashes off the burner, and none of these worked.

It could also be a bad thermal fuse. This is located below and behind the gas valve, and looks like a thick wire covered in shrink tube with a spade connector at each end. You can try temporarily bypassing it with a jumper, to see if this solves the problem. If it does, then time to go get a new one.

Are any of the service lights on on the back-side of the board? There are 4 possible lights that can illuminate...if any are, I need to know which ones please. If not, there is more troubleshooting required. Why does red light on "on" button stay on?

The reason the red light on your rinnai vent free gas heater stays on simply is because it is having power on it, if it is unplugged, it will go off, or if you turn off the switch from the power outlet, then it will go off too.
As long as there is power supplied to the rinnai vent free gas heater, the power light will remain on.
Take care and good luck

I just replaced my heater/fan/light in my bathroom. The only thing that confuses me is the red wire that is attached to the unit itself. What if you do not have a red wire ran but there are still three...

I know wiring and we can solve this problem.

A better description of your wires in required.
Then 'add a comment' at bottom of page, and it e-mails me, and then I can hook up the wires for you.
The following 8 questions are key to solving the problem.

The heater-fan-light has how many wires?
Exactly what color are the fan wires?

How many cables enter the fan-light-heater box?
Does each cable have a black-and-white?
Are all these cables from the switches?
Are there other cables that enter the fan-light-heater box?
How many switches control the fan-light-heater device?
Is each switch a simple on-off switch or are there 3-way switches too (a switch at each end of a hall is example of a 3-way switch)

When heater first turned on light is green then turns red

Yes this is OK. The green light is showing you that you have power. When the light goes red it means that the burner is alight.

Flame wont stay lit

Sounds like a flame sensor problem. The board is not getting the proper signal from the flame sensor so it thinks the burner did not light and shuts the gas supply off. It keeps the blower operating to ensure that no gas is accumulated in the burner area. I suggest you contact a local mechanical contractor to service your heater.

Brivis Buffalo 85 central heating unit - fan stays on problem

I have exactly the same problem. When I have the cover off there is a red light on, from what I can tell is the "Over Heat Fan" this seems to keep the fan on, and because it is in error prevents the system igniting. Haven't got a solution yet it only happened last night. Stu.
