Hi,

I am sorry to hear regarding the trouble.

This is not a good news at all. I would recommend a tech to take care of this. However, would be able to tell you the causes. There could be many causes for the same. On the GWL 10 and GWL 11, if the pump gets wet it can short out the machine control. If you replace the machine control and your pump is shorted, your new control will get ruined in short order.

You also want to check the control's underside for moisture. Another common issue on those machines is that the thermistor seal on the water mixing chamber will shrink up and leak over time. The water leaks into the area under the machine control and shorts out the board. And again, if you do not spot this condition, your new control will fail in short order. The mixing chamber is directly to the left of the machine control.

Wish you a speedy recovery.

Good Luck!!

Thanks!!

One more thing, it could be a blown fuse or some other damage. If you are well versed with electronics and could use voltmeter, i could guide you with few pointers. You need to take all precautions. This would require dissembling of the washer and checking circuits.

    Good Luck!!

    Thanks!!

model is GLW11 top loader, the warning lights were going off prior too, i thought it was because son overloaded washer only to find out later that my husband was monkeying around with it and lights were on then too and then he heard a pop and all lights went off. he then read the book and found out had he unplugged and got the light sequence it would have given us the reason why it was acting this way. now we cant get no lights on at all.

Ok, The display module has failed. The pop noise you herd was a very strong indication of display module failure. The necessary actions are to replace the damaged device. This module is mounted just under the top control panel. The part number will be 420090P(display module). Click here to access the service manual for this unit. The manual will guide you through the component access procedure. You will only need to focus on the top control panel. it must be removed in order to replace the damaged part(display module). Your model will be referred to as a phase 5 unit in the manual provided.

The front panel accessing technique begins on page 62 in the manual provided. As you can see on the page, the control panel has two clips on the front edges that will need to be relieved. Once they are relieved, the control panel can be lifted up and the display module will be mounted on the top part behind the buttons. Just unplug the connectors and remove it from the mounting area and replace it. The control panel is basically held on the unit by plastic clips. Be careful not to break them.

Hi

The smell he got can be from the motor or from the motor controller board. The washer's motor might have died as machine was overloaded with clothes. The motor windings may have burnt and thats why he smelt something burning/hot. However, this might have happenned due to blown Main Controller board. to be sure you'll need to disassemble the washer and check. To disassmble the washer please follow the instructions and diagrams given in this Tech Manual---

Fisher & Paykel GWL11 Exploded Diagram's Manual

Inspect for any disconnections, burnt wires/components and also check the motor wiring. Use a multimeter to check for voltage on motor connection. Please post back for any further assistance. If you are satisfied please do accept the solution.

The washer can still be saved if you are willing to spend about $190 for the Motor Controller Module and $120 for the water pump. The warning lights, as you call it, indicates the fault code and it may have been a pump error code. The water pump is most likely shorting out which leads to the burning out of the Motor Controller Module. The pump must be replaced immediately if failure is detected to prevent damaging further the Motor Controller Module like what happened to your machine.

You might contend why the pump faults out while machine is washing and not pumping out water. The answer is that the water pump functions not only to pump out water and drain the machine but also recirculates water through the diverter valve during the wash cycle.

This is a risky repair to do since you have replace the Motor Controller Module first before all other issues can be determined. The pump definitely needs to be replaced to prevent burning out the Motor Controller Module again before other issues can be determined, if there's any. The machine needs to power up in order to determine the fault codes and be addressed.

Pump Problem with Calypso. I was getting the FL code on my washer so having read all the suggestions on the internet I removed the pump assembly and checked for obstructions, nada. Impeller is...

FL Flood Condition FL flashes if any overfill condition occurs. This condition occurs when excessive water in the tub causes the overfill switch to trip. The control must realize that the trip was due to an overfill condition instead of a suds lack condition in order for FL to be displayed

With an overfill condition, the beeper repeats a warning every 10 seconds with no time-out. The pump is cycled in drain mode for 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off until the overfill switch resets or power is discontinued to the unit.

Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

Washer won't drain..like filter is clogged

This problem I see on these are the water pumps getting clogged with lint or other things, causing the pump not to pump all of the water out at times.

There is a check "valve" in the drain assembly that seems to sometimes cause problems with the FL error code. You can remove this piece, and might avoid changing the pump.

Flashing FL

Hi

If you have error code FL it means flood condition i.e. FL flashes if any overfill condition occurs. This condition occurs when excessive water in the tub causes the overfill switch to trip. The control must realize that the trip was due to an overfill condition instead of a suds lack condition in order for FL to be displayed. With an overfill condition, the beeper repeats a warning every 10 seconds with no time-out. The pump is cycled in drain mode for 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off until the overfill switch resets or power is discontinued to the unit. Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

If its LF which means long fill i.e. when the water fill time exceeds ten minutes, the water valves are turned off and LF is flashed. Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

Please do rate the solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Kenmore Elite Calipso alarm FL WIL NOT spin water out of tub

Hi, Your washer is seeing a flooded condition. That's the bad news. The good news is that it will try to fix the condition, too. I found this info below in a troubleshooting guide:
"FL" flashes if any overfill condition occurs. This condition occurs when excessive water in the tub causes the overfill switch to trip. The control must realize that the trip was due to an overfill condition instead of a suds lock condition in order for "FL" to be displayed.

With an overfill condition, the beeper repeats a warning every 10 seconds with no time out. The pump is cycled in drain mode for 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off until the overfill switch resets or power is discontinued to the unit.

Press STOP/CANCEL to clear the display.

If it occurs again, let the machine try to clear the fault before you clear it.

Best regards, --W/D--

Check the over fill switch hose for weakness or, damage if the FL code continues. if the hose is ok, replace the Over fill switch..

GE Washer overfilled, now won't spin

Could possibly be that the water level switch in the console has gone bad.  Sometimes the small hose that connects the basket and the switch can come off, causing the overfill.  Sounds like maybe the water switch has gone bad though if I were to guess at it.  If it goes bad, it will send the timer a signal that its full, when its not.  Could also be a bad timer, but that only happens on rare occasions, but it does happen.  Let me know how it goes or if you need break down instructions, etc.  Jim
