The memory used for messages is shared across many different areas on your mobile.

Your memory can be used by:
1. Address Book
2. Pictures
3. Music / movies
4. Games / Extra Applications.

If you have any of the above I would recommend you perform cleanup activities to limit how many you may have.

Not enough memory to receive messages, delete some data first in n 72

This is a common problem in some phones. By default, some phones are set to store received messages in the phone memory. When this memory has received so much messages that it can no longer store the incoming messages, this message comes up. Fortunately, fixing it is not hard as far as you have a memory card. Here is the instruction on how to rectify it.
1. Open messages,
2. Press the options button,
3. Select the settings option and go to text messages,
4. Change the default save location from the phone memory to the memory card and it should be fine.
Hope this was helpful?

Unfortunately, there is no way this can be done. the phone fills up the SIM memory, only then it goes to phone SMS memory. But as a solution you can transfer msgs from Phone memory to SIM memory

Memory full - I have a TM506 with a 1GB M2 memory card. (and also a 4GB). I used to be able to send text messages all the time with photos, But now I keep getting a message saying "memory full" when I try...

Hi,

This is because when you send a text message it gets stored in the outbox and it wil be sent.As there is no memory in the phone the message sent cannot be stored up in outbox which says memory full.

Please delete the images ,music files from the phone memory so that you can sent the text messages with photos.

Thanx

Text message memory

First, delete all messagegs in the out and in box. Clear the cashe. (Open browser, press menu key select clear cashe). Do a power cycle.
Then you'll wanna look at your settings. You could be saving your text messages to your sim, which doesn't hold a lot. Also ,if you have pictures that can cause a memory issue. If you use the web, that can cause memory issue. So, please make sure once a day your shut down your razr for about 10-20 seconds. This will give it a nice reboot and work like a dream.
What you can do is change the setting of storing all incoming messages. Its normally set on saving all messages to the SIM which doesn't hold that much memory. If you change it to store your messages to your phone, you can hold approx. 200+, after you reach the 200 msg mark, it will start sending MMS messages

Cheers!

Storing text messages

This is because the Razr stores texts and emails dynamically according to message size and physical memory available. To balance it out, you would have to delete some outbox messages to store more inbox messages and vice versa. The amount of pictures, ringtones, incoming/outgoing calls, emails, texts, and videos all are drawn off the physical memory of the Razr. The device does not have dedicated application memory so everything is taken off the small amount of memory you are given. Newer Razr's such as the V3m for Sprint offer Memory Cards to supplement additional memory. Your device is equipped with a microSD card slot and you can save your music, pictures, and videos to the card and leave the additional phone memory to texts and application memory. You may not be able to save that much more if you move the pictures and music, but you can save more than if you didnt have a memory card. When reaching the maximum limit of memory the phone will tell you that you need to delete some files before continuing to do anything on the phone.

MOTORIZR Z3 - Message Memory Issue

One of my few complaints about my Z3 is the low message capacity. I have a 2gb sd card in there...why can't I store more than 500 texts?
But...500 is a lot more than 10, there's definitely a problem here.
I know there's a way to change the default storage location, although I'm not sure it will change the location of texts or not. Here's how to do it:
Go to the main menu and select "Settings". Scroll down to "Phone Status" and select it. Then select "Download Location" and finally, select the memory card.

Now...What concerns me the most is the 4Tb message flood O_o
