Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try. http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Could be sand particles getting into the seams around the lens barrel, binding it up. Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Canon Powershot A470 Screen reads Lense error , restart camera. makes no difference

Hi,

This error occured when lens is prevented from properly extending or retracting.when pressure is applied to the lens or the area surrounding the lens while handling the camera. The error may also be displayed due External shock or liquid, sand & dirt etc. enters the camera.

Avoid applying pressure to the lens and surrounding area:

1) Do not touch Lens while shooting.
2) Make sure the camera is off before the camera is placed back in the case.

If you cannot clear the error code by turning the camera OFF and then ON again then your device need to be repaired.

Rating the solution is highly appriciated...Good Luck.

Lense won't extend. Has error screen that says "lense error, restart camera"

sounds drastic but turn on cam and grab hold of lens to try to fully extend it manually. if you hear a crunching noise that means the gears are stripped. not worth repairing

Lens Error, Restart

Hi

What you are seeing is a generic stuck lens error message, turning off the camera and turning it on again will not fix the lens unfortunately.

Your lens needs to be cleaned or repaired, and if it cant be repaired it needs to be replaced. There are online places that will do it for a decent price and there are others that overcharge by way too much.

Fixya rules prevent me from giving you a link to anything off Fixya that would help you fix your camera.

Good luck from....

Lense error restart camera

A digital camera's lens is a very easy thing to have damaged. If the lens is bent some time you can force it in to the other direction and it will pop back into place. some times the gears get stripped and the lens then has to be replaced. I replace lenses all the time because of this issue. Hope this helps.
