Okay here are the steps to follow to repair the files,
There are several different methods to repair your missing Windows XP files. The best method by far is System Restore, which will reset your computer safely to a previous state. You can also use your Windows XP CD to repair your missing files, but this can cause problems with your computer, so you should only use this method if System Restore and other Windows programs have failed to solve the problem, or if Windows XP won't boot, even in safe mode.

Repair Windows XP Files with System Restore

  • Step 1Save your work and close all open programs. Click Start, then Control Panel, then Performance and Maintenance. On the left side of the screen, click "System Restore."

  • Step 2Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time." Click Next.

  • Step 3Click a date with a bolded number in the calendar on the left. Make sure this date is at least 1 day in the past. On the right side of the window, select a restore point. Click "Next" twice to restore your system.

Repair Windows XP Files With the Installation CD

  • Step 1Back up all of your user files onto removable media such as CDs or DVDs. Find your Windows XP installation or recovery CD, and insert it into the optical drive that your computer can boot from. Click Start, then Turn Off Computer, then Restart to reboot your computer. When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message appears, press a key on your keyboard. Press "Enter" to start Windows XP setup, and press F8 to accept the licensing agreement.

  • Step 2Select the path of your Windows installation and press "R" to begin repairing it.

  • Step 3Follow the instructions provided by the Windows XP repair program and finish the reinstallation. Go to the Microsoft website and download Service Pack 2 from their website, then visit Windows Update to install Windows XP Service Pack 3, critical updates and Internet Explorer 7.

My hp pavillion ze4900 laptop is having display problems. It works if you plug it in to the moniter but either way if you don't plug it in or not. the laptop itself will not picture anything. Well i can...

    1. Test using an external monitor. If it works, then either the screen bulb or the inverter board might be defective.
    2. Test the inverter. Easiest way to do it if you have a good screen with a good bulb. Connect the good screen to the inverter board & test it. If it lights up, then the inverter board is good. If it did not, then the inverter board is bad & needs to be replaced.
    3. If the inverter board is good, then we are left with the possibility that the screen bulb is bad. To fix this, we will need to replace the LCD screen.

The screen was black but the system is turned on. The blue lights were there but the screen is totally black. Hp pavilion ze4900

Usually when the laptop is on but the screen is not, it is due to the monitor having been put into projection mode. This mode is for when a projector or another monitor is connected to the laptop and you send the image signal to that device. To turn it off (if this is the case) you will need to press the "function" key and the "projection" key at the same time.

On many laptops the projection key is F4, but it could be a different key for you. Start by looking at the F# keys and see if any of them have a little icon that could represent a screen or monitor.

Let us know if that fixes it.
