Question about Whirlpool Dryers

1 Answer

I have a 5 yr old Whirlpool electric dryer. Last fall the heating element went out. Now It is very hard to get the dryer to turn on and then stay on. I believe it is in the timer switch. If you play with the timer switch you can get it eventually to come on and stay on. I checked with the local parts/repair shop. They said the timer switches rarely go bad, suggested checking the electrical connections etc (which I have not done, yet). Since this is a $130 part I am looking for suggestions. would prefer not to buy the timer and have it not be the problem. Thanks for any advice, Steve

Your timer is probably defective. If you wiggle the timer knob while
running and it bumps or shuts off then it probably is the timer.

Whirlpool electric dryer not drying

If the drier drum is still turning I would suspect a separate fuse is open for the heating element. Checking this may require openning the back cover. It may also be a defective or open heating element.
