there really is no "home remedy" to fixing this problem. the screen needs to be replaced. what you can try is get a small clamp (that doesn't clamp too tight) and put it where it keeps pressure on that spot so its usable. im not sure what size screen you have on your model but it will end up needing to be replaced in the long run. ebay is usually the best place to get them. heres a link for price ranges if needed.
I replaced my screen on my 5570z, i purchased it off of ebay for 130.00 shipped, but make sure you check out there feedback, and make sure they have a ZERO dead pixel return policy. Some are sneaky and will not let you return it if you have less than 3 dead pixels.
Check Acer's website for a BIOS update. I've seen a LOT of laptop's screen issues been related to the power saving settings in the BIOS. Sometimes screens going black very fast and not working properly can be caused by that.
The Power Inverter could also be the problem which you wouldn't be able to repair yourself. If you purchased it at Best Buy you can take it to them and they could get that fixed for you (at a charge if there is no warranty with that).
Have you checked The Settings in The Bios.
Your laptop May be set As NTSC Or PAL, displaying on A Different format tv set ?
Try An external Monitor, Or the TV Out if applicable.
If these work in Colour rather than monochrome ( Black And White ) then the fault lies with your svga output on the laptop.
