Question about Dell 3100cn Laser Printer

I am getting 3 different colored lines when I scan only if I make copies no lines,my color cartridges are at 40%...to early to change ?

Hi you should not change you cartridges until the ink is finish, but i need to know what kind of printer do you have? this will allow me to find a solution.

    Because a printer scanner is a two-in-one device, it is used more often than if you had two separate devices. Cleaning a printer scanner can be done in a few easy steps, and if you keep it up, it should stay clean for as long as you're using it.Turn off and unplug your printer scanner.


  • Step 2Open the back of the printer scanner. Spray out all of the dust and particles using a can of compressed air, such as Air In A Can (see Resources).


  • Step 3Check the back of the printer scanner for debris such as jammed paper. Remove any debris that you see.


  • Step 4Open the lid of your printer scanner.


  • Step 5Put a dime-sized amount of eyeglass cleaner on a soft, lint-free cloth. Wipe down the scan area of the printer scanner. Use a circular motion.

    Wipe the excess eyeglass cleaner off of the printer scanner using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth in order to remove any extra liquid.

    These steps can be use to clean the Multifunction Printer.

    The scan of color document gives a black and white product


    there some reasons :

    1- Are you sure to select the copying color not black and white ?
    2- try to reset color ink cartridge ,
    3- try to select clean print head

    Brown background instead of white


    You are probably out of ink in one or more cartridges. You need to do a diagnostic print and take the print to the ink supply vendor to get the correct replacements.

    Hello, look at what cartridges are being used and what is status indication? There are several things to think about, as follows:

    1) Is there a good black cartridge? Many color ink-jet printers will print black using color cartridges if black is out, low, or bad.

    2) Can you use a standalone copy mode - if possible for your printer -and get good/correct copy colors (not using the computer)?

    2) Have any cartridges been refilled manually? I have done this where I thought I refilled a cartridge with the right color and filled it with the wrong one by accident -oops. Please try different cartridges.

    3) Is your printer color problem the same when using any or all programs? If it is and you are sure all the cartridges are OK then use your printer software to reset all the settings to a default factory settings and try again.

    Faint red line across page when making color copies or printing in color from computer


    Some possibilities are:

    1) Dirt on the glass, dirt on the glass strip for the doc feeder, or dust on the mirrors. This would be the case if the line only showed when copying and not printing.

    2) Toner dropped onto the charge sawtooth.
    This may be possible if the line is intermittent and only showed up for 1 or 2 colors.
    Open the front door and remove the waste toner box. To the left of each drum there is a green organ-stop type stem. Pull and reinsert each stem. You will hear a zipping noise. These are your charge scrubbers.
    This may be not as likely if the line shows up in the same place on all 4 colors

    3) Toner or dust on the lens
    This may be possible if the line is intermittent and only showed up for 1 or 2 colors.
    In the area where the waste toner box goes, look for a grey stick with a white cushion on the end. This is your lens scrubber. Look in the area under the charge scrubber on each drum cartridge for a gap. Insert the scrubber cushion side down into the gap and run it forward and back to clean the lens.
    This may be not as likely if the line shows up in the same place on all 4 colors

    4) Transfer belt blade not cleaning
    This is best handled by a service tech since the mylar belt is very fragile. The squeegee blade that cleans the transfer belt between copies is missing a spot. The blade needs to be taken off the belt, cleaned and repowdered. Recently, Sharp made changes to the composition and thickness of the mylar in the transfer belts. Overpowdering the blade or belt when it was changed may cause improper cleaning of the belt creating lines across the copies. Often the condition clears up after a couple of days as the gap between the blade and belt is sealed.
    This is most likely the cause as the line shows up in the same area for more than 1 color.

    5) Transfer belt and/or blade is worn out
    If the belt is worn the blade must be replaced but not vice versa.

    6) Clogged waste augers in the drum cartridges.
    Waste toner may cake up in the drum cartridge and knock loose on the drum.

    It may be time for full maintenance on the machine.

    Cartridge Finishes early


    Unfortunately that is a technical issue.
    1-adjustment of the Seperation
    2-adjustment of the developper
    3-adjustment of the Primary bias
    4- etc.. etc...

    You need a tech to go in and see which adjustment needs to be reset or calibrated. Most adjustments are done in the service mode but you still need to know how anad which one. The SERVICE manual is the only thing that will tell you and how to adjust.

    Copier feature (Black or Color) only produces a Black page


    I beleive you are not able to make a color copy, once try to scan from the computer or all-in-one to check whether the scanner mechanism is working properly or not, if the scan comes out fine then remove the color cartridge and clean the copper contacts of the cartridge with soft cotton cloth and also check the ink level of the cartridge, if the issue persists replace the color cartridge and if even the scan does not comes out good then there is an issue with the scanner mechanism.

    I would try changing the ink cartridges and if you don't have a new set at least take out the ones you have and reseat. Also check Epson's site for new drivers. Try printing from a different program.
