Question about Car Audio & Video

Apparent intermittent ground on dash lighting

2 days ago started to experience blinking of dash lighting, i.e., main console, climate control, radio, clock, cig. lighter back light, and overhead mpg indicator. When headlights turned on, above lighting will start blinking in no fixed pattern. With headlight switch off - no problems. Dimmer switch postion has no effect on problem. Can you point me in the right direction to start troubleshooting or would it be better to have a ford dealer check it out without going bankrupt in the process.

Check your grounds, you may have a bad ground connection behind the radio in the harness or your marine battery is having a ground issue, check that out first if that checks out ok then check out your speaker connections and make sure that they are wired ok. My experience with speaker thumps and pops has to do with ground.

Good luck.

I have a alpine cda-9886 and 2 days ago while i was driving the thing just turned off outta nowhere i checked the fuses and the battery

there should be an inline fuse that is on the back of the radio. i know I would hate to do this too but I would take the radio out check the fuse on the back of the radio along with the inline fuse in the cables. Also you need to check your connections mainly your power cables. Make sure that they are not touching ground and make sure that all of your wires are reinforced with electrical tape. Seakers shorting out... wiring or amplifyer?

Sounds like a wiring problem. check the connections on whatever is easier first (radio/speakers) if the connections are good you may have to trace the wires to see if there is a break or short somewhere.
