Question about Sony Video Game Consoles & Games

2 Answers

I setup an Imac in my house and was hoping to watch cable (I use comcast cable) Imac monitor. What is the best way to set this up (affordable too if possible)? Also, I've got the Imac on my wireless network (can use hard wire if necessary) and have an Airport express on which I stream itunes to my living room stero from Imac. Can I also play youtube or other audio from my Imac on my stereo? ....THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR THE SUPPORT.

I guess I kinda asked 2 questions really - thank you!
Regarding the Imac/cable issue: I've got Comcast and have a smaller (booster) box wired to the room in question. I looked at Elgato eyetv as they have options such as the one you mentioned. I'm not really sure which would be ideal- any thoughts? It sounds like the eyetvHD would work well but a bit pricey. I don't have DVR service from Comcast right now- would this enable me to record anyway? Also, it sounds like I'll need to have Comcast switch out my box for a real box (b/c the one I have doesn't have audio output). Any thoughts or solutions on that issue? Or could you confirm that?
For streaming the audio from youtube and music sites (Pandora/Slacker) I was going to use Handbrake. With these types of softwares that you recommended, do you have to always safe and play through itunes or will it just automatically play from the site? ...I'm a total Mac virgin here and not too tech savvy. I appreciate the help! -Thanks.

Yes you have to have Comcast switch out the  box for a real box.
And you have to always safe and play through itunes .And take care while downloading softwares. In some cases the virus gets installed and makes the system corrupt. So whole system needs to be formatted if it gets corrupts. Not in all softwares the virus gets loaded but in some INTERNET loaded softwares it gets loaded. So keep your anti-virus enabled and updated.to be safe.----------

Thanks.

Hi Samsunjek,

You can definetly watch tv on your imac, There are a number of different configurations depending on your specific set up. if you have a digital box with rca output you can purchase a converter for the video into your Imac's displayport and a converter for the audio cables into the audio in port. You can also connect the coaxial cable to a coaxial to hdmi converter box, these devices are readily available and can range from as low as $100 to several hundred. The reason for the hdmi output is so that you can have audio and video. You would also have to purchase an hdmi female to mini displayport cable. All of these cables are available on line or at most Radio Shacks.

As for your stereo you can stream any files with an audio codec, meaning that as long as you can replay the audio file you will be able to stream the audio to your stereo. there are several applications to rip auido from youtube, as well as other sites and you can just add them to your itunes. Look for anyvideo converter on google for a free download.

if you give me more specifics I will gladly give you a more detailed option.

I am trying to setup my receiver with my TV and Comcast cable box using HDMI cables (TV-OUT and HDMI-1) but for some reason I don't get any sound from non-HD channels. Am I missing something?? I've read...

I'm thinking there might be a setting in the cable box that may be sending the wrong bit rate for PCM 2-channel audio but usually the receiver decodes that stuff fine. Just the same, I'd give Comcast a call.

I run the video from my cable box directly to the TV (HDMI) and the coaxial digital audio to my receiver so each one can do what it does best with the best possible un-modified source data.

When watching HD channels the sound drops out for a second and gets really annoying when watching sports or movies.. as if the HTR-5940 cannot keep up with the digital feed... do I need to replace the...

If it's thru Cable TV, your feed may need an amp. If your on FIOS or DSS, I'm stumped. How many boxes are in your house and how many locations are set up for TV and have no TV hooked up? If any, you need to try "F" caps at the empty locations, it causes signal loss. If all locations are terminated, the Cable company needs to ramp up the feed. They can do this via phone if you have Comcast or Bright House, otherwise, just call and ask. Hope this helps

Cable isn't working on the TV

1-First to make sure that the cable cord has signal first by checking with a working TV in your house.
2-Need to set up your TV to receive CABLe or Antena in your TV menu set-up. However, you can see only analog channels . You won't be able to see digital channels unless you rent cable boxfrom Comcast. Good luck

The setup page of your router should be set basically default, it should be all set to auto ip and other than your dns there should not be anything else to set. I have 3 wireless and two wired devices and all of the computers .And the speed is constant,,something is wrong with your settings, if you can take a screenshot by opening the router homepage and hitting the print screen button on your keyboard, you can then hit paste on here and it will past the entire thing on here to examine

Plugged up display via the VGA cable to an HP dv6000 laptop; the Acer powered up and displayed fine ... however, noticed a faint waving motion in the picture, as if the screen was literally gel and began to wave, from top to bottom as it appeared. Best I can describe it ... any suggestions as to why? I only connected it to this HP to try it out, I ordered it from newegg and wanted to make sure pixels werent dead on arival. I will be getting an Aurora 7500 (Alienware): AMD X2 6000, Windows Vista Premium, 2GB RAM, GeForce 512 8800GT, SLI ready motherboard ... I heard good things of Acer and hoped this display would look great with my soon-to-come setup and im sure it will. However, just nervous it will do this on my Aurora. Any help or suggestions would be beyond appreciated!!
