Question about Canon PowerShot SD750 / IXUS 75 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have been trying to take pics at night at a concert, outdoors. I am on row 10 and 95% of the pics come out grainy looking and not clear. I was wondering what settings to have the camera set on

Hi,

if the lightings at the concert are good then you should stick to manual mode for photography.

You can also try Outdoor mode.
But if the lighting is not so bright then click the photos in night mode.

I think I have tried night mode and they are still grainy.

    Any other ideas?

If you are looking in the LCD screen of the camera then it might appear to be grainy when it is actually not. When you transfer them to the computer they are a lot different in the picture quality.

Should I use the flash or turn it off?

  • gbkc05 Jul 29, 2010

The pics are grainy when I transfer them to the computer, not on the LCD

If you won't use flash the pictures will be dark... So don't turn it off

Try clicking some pictures in normal mode. Are they also grainy?? If yes then the problem is with the camera.

Cable box have HDMI port, hook it up on a HDMI cable to the tv,will improve picture quality greatly.Tries HDMI cable to hook up the PS3 system and go in setup changes to HDMI setup will get HD format picture, will be very clear no more grainy and inconsistanty.

What image resolution should i be using for regular 4x6 prints i have a 10.1 megapixel camera, but my pics still look grainy

Your pictures should not be looking grainy. Are they printed grainy but look clear on your screen. If so then it's just your printer. Try forcing the flash in the highest resolution. If you video's are grainy too then there is possibly something wrong with your camera. Make sure your lens is really clean. Worst case your CCD sensor inside your camera could be bad. Hope not!

I have a dc-wpc-st531tblk-vp and the pics use to be amazing but now they are very grainy. Is there a reason and can it be fixed?

The most likely cause of this is an inadvertent change in the settings. Check to ensure that your camera is set at the highest quality setting (Megapixels). Also, look at the program modes. For regular point-and-shoot pictures, just set it on 'auto'. If it has been set on a night-shot or set to manual, the aperature and shutter speed will make the image look grainy.
Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Finepix E550 -suddenly very grainy photos and over exposed?

Have you checked what ISO you have selected here?
Graininess and over exposure can be caused by selecting the wrong ISO ( which in film days was ASA ( film speed) The average ISO should be 100 some early models allowed ISO 64 or similar. Having it set at 400 -800 ISO can also have the pics come out grainy. But not nescessarily overexposed unless you point directly at the light source as these ratings are for low light/movement situations. The video mode usually sets itself up differently to picture mode. The fact that you say your video is OK says there is nothing wrong with the lens or sensor, just the settings you have initially chosen to have autoed.

The TZ series is not known for good indoor pictures. T Z is short fot Travel Zoom. The is great for outdoor pictures and long distance shots.

Indoors, be sure you use flash and your subject is within 8 feet so flash light can reach them. Let the camera select the proper settings using the Intelligent ISO setting.. Or set it to Night slow shutter speed) while holding the camera, and subject very still for 3 seconds after shutter press, and with Image Stabilization on.

Also, don't forget if you are viewing the pics on your big screen PC, then the pics will always look worse than they will either on your Camera screen professionally printed pix fo 5x7, which will likely be fine to acceptable. If you get up to 9x10 printed sizes, then you will likely see what you would see on a large PC screen....not very good.

There is a chance you have a bad camera. If it is under warranty, take it to a panasonic repair center locally. I am afraid if you send it off to a depot, they may charge you while declaring nothing is wrong with it.

Grainy pictures at night

Hi

Low light without a flash will always cause grainy pictures unless you have a very high end camera that can shoot at very high ISO speeds like 6400 and up.

Try changing the camera from the green camera 'auto' setting to "P" and then press the Menu button (I think it's Menu) and look for the different mode settings. There should be one for Night or Night Portrait or similar, I can't recall Sony terms and I don't have one here to check sorry.

Your other option is to use the flash, try it with Red Eye turned on if possible.

Hope this helps.

Very grainy pictures indoors at night

If you can adjust the ISO sensitivity to a lower number then the graininess will be reduced.

However, by reducing the ISO, you will need a slower shutter speed and a larger aperture. A tripod, table or other support may be necessary.

The "noise reduction" setting on the camera can also be adjusted a step up.

Taking pictures at full resolution and fine compression will also help.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overall, at least try lowering the ISO, and using the flash brighter.
