Question about Microsoft Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My computer beeps and suddenly freezes and there is a light on one of my disk drives that isn't flashing. I can't even restart it with the reboot button. The only way I can reboot it is through the I/O switch. I don't know much about computers so be easy on the terminology.

Thank you for the quick reply. I'll definitely try to clean it up. This usually happens when I'm viewing flash videos like on youtube or I'm in a flash heavy website. Sometimes it just happens on other programs as well.

When you watch heavy flash content and/or are using programs which also it puts a lot of strain on you computer, especially your processor. So make sure your cpu cooler is dust free.

Does it beep? Do you have any video on the monitor? What are your front panel lights doing? If it doesn't beep, check the memory. IBM is very particular about their memory. If your monitor does not have any illumination, the BIOS is not getting there. Again, indicative of memory. If the front panel lights do not flash, and your drives don't cycle, possible power supply problem.

Not detecting, beeping

This is likely a couple problems;

1. The hard drive is dying or is dead. You're looking at hardware recovery if this is the case. There are some tools such as Spinrite that might be able to recover the disk. (GRCHard drive data recovery software)

2. The power supply on the computer/laptop is not functioning as well as it used to. Try using another PC to see if there's any difference in results.

Bios Beep

Motherboard BIOS Recovery Jumper
  • Install the bootable BIOS upgrade disk which you previously created to do the original flash upgrade into drive A: and restart the system. If the update failed because you used the wrong BIOS update you should get the correct one and repeat this step. When the computer reboots there will most likely be no video prompts, however you can monitor this procedure using the floppy drive light and the PC speaker. When the PC speaker beeps and the floppy drive light is lit it means that it is currently copying the new BIOS onto the motherboard.
  • When the floppy drive light goes off and the PC speaker beeps (twice in most cases) the recovery should be complete. During the update procedure there might be pauses that looks like your computer is doing nothing, if so be sure to wait at least a minute to make sure the update is complete. When you are sure the BIOS update is complete and there is no more activity, power off the computer.
  • Change the jumper you changed before back into the original position so the computer can operate normally.
When you turn your computer back on your BIOS will be functional and you should be able to use your computer normally again.

The Hardrive is now beeping and the blue light only flashes once. And my laptop isn't recognising it. Everything I have is stored on it?

click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager look through all of your devices if you see a yellow question mark?or exclamation mark ! or red x
right click to reinstall drivers or

if you can see your usb but its not working
ports(com&lpt)right click update driver

sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable

just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again,

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red-white-green-black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems

if this fails to fix the problem
type in run "regedit" then press ok then you can see registry editor then locate below key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11 CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} And remove upper filter and lower filter.

Then restart computer then check.

Also locate the below key and make sure it's value is 3 not 4. HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\usbstor make sure start value is 3 not 4

if still no luck
you might have to install a usb 2 or 3 card they are cheap and easy to install you can buy these on Ebay very cheap
hope this helps

Ps3 says cannot start the correct hard disk was not found

try safemode
hold down the power button while the console is in standby. the light will go from red to green.it will beep once flash green beep again, and then beep a third time. after the third beep the light will turn red.

once the light is red, take your finger off the power button and place it back on the power button. the light will go from red to green, beep once flash and then beep twice quickly. after it does the double beep, take your finge roff. the light will stay green and you'll get a screen asking you to connect the controller.

after connecting the controller, try option 3, or whichever option is restore filing system. this can possibly correct media loading and will 95% of the time fix the console when it freezes before loading up your icons(the xmb)

Red dot and beep

The problem is in most cases the Power Supply given is of too low of Wattage, at 1.5. After some time, it will no longer provide the drive the needed power, thus the red light.

Try another similar power supply of higher Watts (my Maxtor has it at 2.0 watts.

Try getting Higher power Supply from Radio Shack. Store Tech will Help you.

Lastly, inside the enclosure is simply a typical Hard Drive. Remove it and Slave it to your PC.

Dear Crewchief Try deep freezing your drive, really, I mean freezing it for more than an hour, take it out and attach as a primary or secondary slave and see if it cycles up. Sure hope this helps.
