Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My 10 year-old GE top loader washing machine did not completely drain after a cycle yesterday. I had run a rinse-only cycle, and it kept trying to drain and would not ever spin. It will agitate, but it won't fill with water. I've tried unplugging it, choosing hot/cold water, etc. The hoses are a year old, and the water lines are on. There is no model number on it, but it's a "13-cycle 3-speed, Heavy Duty Super Capacity" machine. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Yeah!! You saved me the $80 per hour cost for the repair. Thanks for the quick and accurate response. We're about to leave on vacation, so it was a really bad time for a breakdown. Thanks again!

Use a writing pen and, put it into the hole on the top of the washer that the lid pin goes into. the machine should spin, if it does replace the lid pin or fix or,
replace your lid switch.

Thanks - I will try it! I found the lid pin today, based on reading similar problems from others. Hope it works, and I really appreciate how quickly you responded.

My GE top load washer is about 5 months old. It fills up and runs through the agitation cycle but then stops at the end spin cycle. The clothes just sit in the water. I checked the hose for kinks and...

I have had this problem with two of my previous washers a top loader and front loader. Each time it was a faulty pump that drains the water from the tub after the wash cycle is complete. If the water does not drain from the tub the machine will not go to the spin cycle. Both of my washers were 5 or 6 years old when this occurred. If the washer is only 5 months old it should be under the manufactures warranty. Good Luck.

GE front load washer will not complete the rinse & spin cycle

1) 1st check the filter under the machine (it unscrews behind the access panel 2) open front door and pull back the rubber membrane to see metal and clean out the debris blocking drain holes 3) remove the drain hose from the machine (spring clip) and try and run water thru it and keep blowing out the junk and re-attach 4) run the machine thru 2 cleaning cycles w/bleach and without bleach 5) start using less detergent

Kenmore washer - water won't drain. It stops

If the water drains between the wash and rinse cycles, your motor and pump are probably OK. If this is a machine with a dial, try a different cycle, like normal instead of heavy duty. If that works and the machine completes the entire cycle then the timer probably has a bad spot. You might try to find a replacement timer if that is the case although I didn't have any luck with my 10 year old washing machine. Best of luck

10 year old top loader, stops midway thru cycle

turns out it was the opening and closing the lid while trying to get it to run again. I placed a screwdriver in the hole on the lid sensor deal and it kept running so I order a new stinger or what ever you call the deal on the lid that goes in to the hole. I was going to order a timer until I read your emails on your web site..saved me a lot of money. THANKS

Stopped mid wash cycle,no drain,no spin, will not go to next cycl

water pump blocked with nylon stuffing from old pillow.removed front panel from hinges under the lid. water pump at the right hand corner removed hose then removed 2 cups of nylon threads and stuffing forced into pumps small openings where it was compacted to a solid mass.

28+ year old- Speed Queen Heavy Duty top loader

It sound like you drain hose is siphoning off the rinse water, It needs a standpipe make sure the drain hose is at about the height of the top of the washer, Make sure the drain hose isnt stuck in the drain it also needs an air cap. the drain hose should not lay on the floor to run to the drain

Please let me know if this doesnt solve your problems

GE Nautilus won't drain after Rinse Cycle

Check disposer plug. If a garbage disposer has been recently installed, it is possible the disposer drain plug was not removed. The drain plug is a plastic piece in the disposer that blocks the hole where the dishwasher hose connects. Also check the hose connected to the disposal. Mine apparently had a kink in it. When I straightened the hose the dishwasher drained at full speed (I recently had a plumber re-route a hot waterline. He must has bent the hose). Hope this helps. If not go to the GE website. That's where I found my answer.
