Need new S/W loaded on MR-8

Got a bad Software Load on my MR-8 Fostex digital Multitrack recorder now it will not allow me to do anything. I need to find a way to Flash the original S/W load back on it, or find a repair facility that can do it.

Hi there,

Well first of all you can try unplugging power to the unit for 60 minutes, then plug back in and try again. This will reset the unit's microprocessor. If further you have the same problem then you can press the reset button for about 30 seconds, it helps you to fully reset the unit.
Note. If none of the solution works then lastly you can try to upgrade the firmware of your fostex, please follow the below link to download (upgrade) the firmware -

http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/support/software_update_1.shtml

Please post comments for further help or information.........

Good Luck!!

Thanks

All that you gave me was what was tried. The link you gave me was where I got a bad load from. This is no help I need a little deeper troubleshooting. I need to find the processor/firmware update from an external source in order to get the reset and buttons to work again. If you can tell me how to make this unit default load from the CF card than that might be the answer. Thanks for your assistance.

You have a memory problem. If you are using a flash card for memory or a CD drive or perhaps you have configured an external drive, you need to free up some space. Try deleting tracks or songs you don't need anymore.

Each song is independent on a CompactFlash
without affecting other songs. You can give a desired song name for managing recorded songs
(see pages 23 and 91).
Recorded track data is stored in a song as mono WAV files.
The MR-8mkII can convert the two WAV files recorded on tracks 7 and 8 (L and R) to a stereo
WAV file (see page 115).
You can export the converted stereo WAV file to your USB-connected personal computer, and
use the file by a music software application or make an original audio CD on the computer using
a CD burn software application. You can also burn an audio CD by using an external CD-R/RW
drive connected via the [USB HOST] port of the MR-8mkII (see page 115 and 123)

I don't remember telling you to do this...have you checked out google, or youtube?? There is a vast amount of free info on these sites....it is worth checking out....these digital recorders come with their own operating system...you must be talking about a factory reset....That should be in the owners manual....

Hello. It's my first time on this forum. I just got a Fostex VF08 multitrack recorder from a friend of mine. But when I switch it on, the display is just orange, showing no text. All the commands seem to...

You will need to put th set on for really some time. I assume that the person who gave you must give more information if the recorder was working prior to this or was idling for along time.
If so leave the set on and allow the electronics to bring up voltage to all stages.
If there is no result look near the display unit the links, the cconnectors and the processor.
Now is your experienced friend can check out the prrocessor and display interface we can have some leads.
So check this out and respond

Note that the name of the song CANNOT have blanks and the use of special characters is limited.

If you need a space in the name you have to use the underscore to creat a "space".

USB cords are cheap and can often be found even in Thrift stores... try a new one to eliminate that possibility... I will say they RARELY go bad unless they have been abused.

Remember that reading a USB stick by the computer is FAR different than transfering data from the Fostex...

Compactflash reads error

You need to verify that your card is confirmed to work in the MR8 at this site:

http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/support/MR8_Operation_CF_20071213.pdf

It is OBVIOUS that your card is not acceptable because it is larger than 2GB.
