Question about Canon PowerShot A530 Digital Camera

Taking apart a A530

I am trying to replace the front of the camera body. I have the replacement piece from Canon but I am having a problem taking apart the case. I have removed all of the visible screws, but the top of the case at the function selector wheel is still connected. Does any one know if the wheel just pops off with an upward pull on the wheel or what. Any insight/help is appreciated

Leave the mode selector wheel alone. It is not necessary to remove it. Take a look at the following A530 disassembly guide. It should be of help:

Hi, I am using Cannon A530 model camera. problem is :--- blinks "battery is low" after taking 5-10 pictures. given for repair. He is saying "Capacitor leakage" and costs about 1550-00...

First thing, get your camera back from that particular repair person, as Canon may repair this problem for free. Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please see this link for more info.

Camera won't take a picture if the flash is

I had this exact problem with the same camera.
Here is how I got my flash to work.
Go to the play button, press menu.
Then, Go to setup and scroll all the way down to reset all...
Once pressing that, your camera should work.

I have a powershot a530 and i am trying to replace the front cover, but i am having a problem taking off the entire cover from the camera. I have all the visible screws taken out, but the cover won't...

I had a similair problem while removing the rear cover. As I am not sure if your problem refers to the front cover only, I will describe how I managed to pull of the rear part.
Be sure to pull out all the screws (including the one inside the battery compartment) - there are 7 screws altogether. It is also necessary to keep the battery compartment lid open. It needs some strength to remove the rear cover. I suggest that you insert a screwdriver in the crack between both covers at the bottom or side of the camera and while twisting it sligthly, work all the way around the camera.

Good luck

Point and shoot button

I don't think this problem is fixable. Never force the lens closed, just restart it into both regular and playback mode.

My flash won't work!!!

Check to make sure your camera's not on the A530 recall advisory list. Maybe the flash capacitor isn't getting enough power due to the shorting described in the advisory?:

Problem with Canon A530 Lens

I had this happen to a camera of mine a while ago, and I don't think there is a lot you can do except call Canon to see if they'll fix it or get a new camera, but before you do that, you could have a go at taking the whole camera apart and checking out how the lens works to try and see what's going on. Some gears are probably out of place. If you're lucky, you might be able to put them back.
