Question about HP LaserJet 1020 Printer

1 Answer

The fax does not accept the command to print from the desk top computer. In short, when I click the print icon the printer does not print. It is possible that I clicked an incorrect key on the keyboard causing this issue? Please help me. Allen

First off go to the printers and faxes folder located in control panel ie, click start> control panel> printers and faxes. make sure that fax/printer is set to default and says ready. Then when printing when the print window comes up make sure you have that printer/fax selected in the pull box. if the the problem persists you may want to try deleting the printer from the printers and faxes folder and reinstalling it. Just to confirm the model you have a laserjet 1020 printer? If you need further assistance please let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

My hp desk jet 4215 is on fax mode and wont print can you tell me how to fix it

When you install an all-in one printer it creates 2 icons under printers and faxes, one is for the printer and one for the fax. With the issue that you're having it could be that what's set to default is the icon for fax, that's why whenever you try to print something it pulls up a screen for fax. Just make sure that you have the printer icon highlighted when you print. To set the printer as the default: Go to your Start button on your computer and go to Printers and Devices (Printers and Faxes for Win XP), if you can't see that on the list, go to Control Panel instead and click on Printers and Devices (Printers and Faxes for Win XP). Right click on the icon of your printer and click on Set as Default Printer. If the icon for your printer is missing, it might have been removed/deleted, in that case, you have to uninstall and reinstall the software.

Printer is offline. how do I get it online?

Once you have added either a USB or networked printer to your PC or Mac computer, you can begin sending documents to print. However, on occasion, a print command will create an error on the printer and take it offline, which will prevent all future jobs from printing. To resolve this issue, you will need to change your printer settings from offline to online.
PC Instructions - Open the Start menu and click on the "Printers and Faxes" icon. This will open a window with a list of the printers currently set up on your computer. - Double-click on the icon of the printer you want to change to online. A pop-up window detailing all current print jobs will open. - Go to Printer in the menu bar of the pop-up window and uncheck "Use Printer Offline." This action will change the printer from offline to online. Mac Instructions - Open System Preferences by clicking on the icon in the Dock. - Go to the Print & Fax control panel under the Hardware category. - Select the printer you want to take online from the list on the left side of the screen. Then click on the "Open Print Queue" button. - Click on the "Resume Printer" button at the top of the queue window to change the printer from offline to online.

I can only print black but i need color also

1] The first step is to get into your computers' control panel, go to the start button on the desk top and click it, then go to settings and click on it and control panel and click on that.

2] Once your in control panel you'll see the printers and faxes icon you'll click on that.

3] You'll then right-click on the icon for your printer (i.e the printers' name and model) and go to properties selection which will bring you to the property sheet.

4] After that you see (depending on the OS) a number of tabs for that particular printer, usually it will be labeled setup, color management, etc, you'll select this.

5] The final steps are to select the color radio button instead of the black button and to finally close out all the windows of control panel to get back to the desktop.

6] Now your printer will be printing in color.

George

Hello
The reboot of the pc along with a unplug of the printer should clear the printing. Do you have several printers listed to print to and did you print to the wrong one perhaps.
You say the unit would print from the scanner which is sort of odd as well. My scanner prints but only cause it is hooked to the PC.
there will be a large additional charge :-)

Printer won't print from computer

Start from the beginning. Check that everything is connected between the computer and printer. Be sure the power is on. In Windows XP, go to the control panel and find "Printers and Faxes". Double click on that. If you don't find your printer in the list of printers and icons, click on the "Add Printers" button on the left column. Follow the steps to install your printer. When you print, make sure the printer is selected. If you have more than one printer icon (and you only have one printer), right-click on the icon for your printer, and find the button that says " Set As Default Printer". Click on that so that the printer is the one that will print your files. You'll see a check-mark next to the icon which indicates that it's the default printer. If you have multiple icons for the same printer, delete the ones that aren't being used.
Once your printer is set up properly, try printing something to be sure it works.
If it doesn't and you can't figure out what's wrong, you may have a faulty cable. Try another one.
When you go to print you file, click on "File", then "Print". Then you can see which printer is going to be used. If your printer isn't shown in the box at the top, click on the scroll box and see if your printer is there. Click on it if you see it in there. If you simply click on the printer icon on the tool bar, you won't know which printer has been selected. Use the "File" and "Print" commands instead to gain access to more information about your printer selection, paper type, preferences, etc. Good luck!
