Question about Kitchen Ranges

Open Question

I have a Whirpool Gas dryer. Model # TGDX640pq0. Dryer Was on and not heating. After reading on it alot i cleaned out the outside vent inside the dryer in the ducts by blower , pretty much everywhere. Used the multimeter on all the components including the 2 coils and all showed continuity . After starting the dryer back up On timed dry with an empty drum everything worked fine looked in side peep hole on bottom left of dryer flame and sensor were working turning on and off properly. I then tried auto dry and the flame went on and after shutting off 5-10 mins later flame didnt come back on and ignited and sensor worked fine. I tried timed dry immediately after and then the flame on it also didnt work . The timer on auto dry doesnt move and i am completely lost . Can anyone please tell me whats wrong with my dryer.???

SOURCE: Hotpoint Gas oven doesn't light

Sounds like the oven ignitor is weak.  If everything else is working it must be a bad ignitor.  These are usually easy to replace and can expect to pay $70-$100 for the part.  Check to see if it glows when in bake mode first.  If it does then replace the ignitor.  You can look at the ignitor,  when not on, if it is white-ish then it needs replace or if it doesn't have a full glow, can compare to broil ignitor, then it needs replaced.  Let me know if you have further questions.

SOURCE: kenmore gas dryer after 5 to 10 min. later no more heat

Yup, shortly after I posted this question I was able to find that it was indeed the valve coils. Very easy to get to and replace. Cheap too! Got both of them for about $20 thru Same parts would have cost about $70 thru Sears direct.

Patrick, they are located on the burner unit under the drum in the front left. You can get a diagram of the burner unit by looking up Parts for your model # at

Only tricky thing is you may need to have someone help hold the tumbler in place when you put the belt back on the motor. Personally I found it easier to use two hands to manipulate the belt around the motor and tension bracket and have my wife hold the drum in place rather than to try and balance it myself.

Good luck!

I have a gas dryer that when cycle begins it heats but after a while it stops heating and it takes too long for clothes to dry...Why is this happening?

I would check the the vent hose first. It might be clogged with lint or stopped up some other way or even crimped where the air won't flow. Turn on the dryer and go outside and be sure there is a good flow of air coming out of the vent. If there's not much air flow dis connect the hose and clean it out

My Whirpool Duet Gas Dryer is no longer heating up.

This is probally the coils. They tend to fail as the dryer heats. There is a video at that will walk you thru the troubleshooting. It's a different model but the testing of the parts will be the same.

The dryer does not heart

is it gas or electric?what's the model number?if you checked the thermal fuse located on the blower wheel housing and that's ok,check the heating element with a meter,if it's gas you have to read out the ignitor, the sensor and the gas coils with a meter,if it's gas and you have parcial heat change out the gas coils, did you check the thermal fuse part 3392519 or on some dryers it's a 3390719 with a meter,if you did you have to remove one of the wires to get a true reading on anything you're reading out, also unplug the dryer before you check these things, also when you clean out the dryer you gotta take off the duct that the lint filter slides into and vac out the inside of the dryer,if the vent line is long,i use a leaf blower to clean out the line, remove the line from the dryer and the wall, stick the blower in the hole in the wall and blow the line out from the wall to the outside hood and make sure nothing is blocking the hood like a cage, some hoods come with a cage so animals can't crawl up the line,if you have this you gotta clean the cage every month,if you need more help send model number and if it's gas or electric

Hi, i have a homebrand dryer. Model: TD50-89S. Without asking first,my son transferred washing to dryer. Unfortunately, there was alot of white fluff all over washing and he assumed the dryer could take...

Your duct work is probably clogged with the fluff, which will not allow the air to flow though like it should. When that happens, the heat builds up on the cabinet and the heat sensor shuts down the heat. Its an easy fix, it this is the case. Just remove the duct from the dryer, clean it out, clean out the fluff from the dryer duct connection, then go outside and inspect the outside dryer vent for clogs. Make sure the flapper is working on the outside vent as well. Good luck!

My dryer Whirpool model LGR4434AQ0 don't heat air in cycle. What it can be?

Most of the time, the problem is:
1. a plugged vent system.
2. broken heating elements or
3. a bad thermostat.
To check the venting system, turn the machine on and check for a strong air flow where the dryer exits the house, outside. If there is weak or no air flow, you may have an obstruction in the ducting, at the drter, or at the louvered vent in the wall to the outside. Unplug the dryer and remove the duct. Holding it like a "U", take it outside and shake it out. Look ate the wall vent; clean as necessary. Look into the dryer exhaust, remove any debris found there. Pull the lint trap and inspect the cavity. Vacuum out any debris. Replace the ducting.
If this doesn't fix you. Check your heating elements. If you have an electrical test meter and know how to use it, gain access to your heating element terminals inside the back panel, and test for continuity. Replace any defective heating elements. They are readily available from any appliance parts supply house.
If this still doesn't solve your problem, test and/or replace the thermostat as required.
Hope this was useful to you!

Hi, If the ignitor glows and then shuts off before you get a flame, then you will need to change the coils on the top of the gas valve. This is the most common problem with the gas dryer not heating consistant. Make sure your venting to the outside is cleaned out. A plugged went causes the coils to go back quicker.
I hope this helps and please let me knw if I can assist you further.
