This is could be either the cable is bad, or needs to be pulled off and put back on, or the jack that the cable goes into is loose or faulty. If possible, try the vcr on another tv or try another vcr on that same tv to rule out tv video input problem

I have hooked my son's vcr up to my daughter's tv, and it's fine, I dont have the remote for this vcr, but I have a universal that works it. If the setup menu for the vcr is off, then the sound is off as well, but as soon as I hit the setup menu the sound comes back.

Try checking closed caption options and mute to make sure they are all off. Then if the vcr has audio options, make sure eveything is set to on or set to speakers.

I have a sharp vcr vC992 what is sp the menu pops up and sound but movie not working

SP is standard play. If you are playing a VHS video and cannot see the picture, but you can hear the sound playing. Then you need to clean the video head inside the machine. You can get a head cleaning tape to do this. That should restore the picture.

We were just watching a vhs movie on our tv/vcr combo unit and the picture went to fuzz however, the sound was still working. any suggestions or are we in need of a new unit.

Some VHS have a tracking button that allows the user to tune to the best signal. Usually that tracking function is used as follows.
While movie is playing on the VHS unit and signal gets fuzzy, press the channel key repeatedly (for example >> to increase the channel number). f after awhile pressing the same channel change button does not find a better picture, you should press the other channel change button (to decrease the channel number <<) to see if the picture improves.

If that does not work, IT DOES NOT MEAN that you tv/vcr combo unit is defective. It could just be the movie. The tape is magnetic and it might have been accidentally demagnetized.

If picture is better with another movie/tape, your unit is definitely OK.

How do I get the picture?

The TV is usually set to Channel 3 or Channel 4. You may have a switch on the back of the VHS recorder near which is marked Ch3 Ch4.

Once you correct this, try the following procedure.

Some VHS have a tracking button that allows the user to tune to the best signal. The tracking can also be done from the remote controller.

Some how my 7 month old daughter changed it so that i cant see the video only hear it. not the tv but the player is the problem, cant even see the menu to fix it! I can see and hear the VCR but only hear...

If you have an older TV she probably pressed the progressive button below the VHS and changed the video to progressive while your TV only shows interlaced. Press it and see what happens.

Can't get vcr to record

Make sure you are giving the VCR a signal.
If using a RF source (cable or antenna), make sure the VCR's tuner is set up for the right type and channels.
When trying to record put the TV's input to the VCR to make sure it is getting what you want.
