Question about GE 30" Self-Cleaning Freestanding Electric Convection Range - Stainless-Steel

Model # GRCL3700ZWW-3 Self cleaning 30" convection stove

I have a 6 year old GE stove......the first time I used it the burner liners became discoloured......when I cleaned them they just got worse and they always look dirty and with further use the enamel started coming off while cooking......it was still under warranty so I had all of them replaced.....then I put the oven on a self clean cycle and the entire door window went black and could not be cleaned......still under warranty it was replaced.......just last week I decided to open all the windows and run the self-clean cycle since it usually smells really bad......after about an hour my house was full of smoke and upon looking into the oven I saw a large flame covering the entire left quarter of the window........turned the oven off and called the fire dept who told me to get out of the house and wait for them to come......the flame was still going and I went outside to wait......when they arrived the flame was out but the outsides of the oven were extremely hot and they used their gloves to remove it to the back deck because they did not want it in the house as hot as it was.........I called their service line and filed a report.......they sent out a technician to decide why it caught fire(at a cost of $90.35) who said he could not decide why this happened but the seal coil was charred and it could be that the door does not seal correctly......he also said that the manufacturer recommends that the oven be wiped out with soap and water before a self clean cycle....this is not in the use and care guide.......now I have contacted them again and they do not have the info yet.......the repairs will cost at least $300 and I cannot use the oven until it has been repaired.......fortunately it is nice enough outside to use the BBQ or I would not be able to cook much of a meal......

The oxygen on the burners was close, that will give you the soot or black smoke and also will give you a much bigger flame.

I have a GE self cleaning oven I want to clean. Do I need to take racks out, and am I able to use stove during this process

If you do not take the racks out they will discolor and not slide in and out as well as before. Do not use the stove for any other purpose during the cleaning process. Oven temperatures reach over 900 degrees during cleaning. Open a window to vent out the fumes from cleaning.

SmartSet control has malfunctioned and oven stopped working

The best way to reset the control is to unplug the unit from all power sources. Let is set for about 30 minutes to an hour. And then plug it back in. If you still have the same problem you are most likely going to have to replace some electronics.

I have 48 " 6 burner stove natural gas.Stove is

the glass in the ovens should not crack when self clean is used. it could be that there was a minut crack in the glass or a build up of moisture in between to door windows that expanded at the extra heat but this should be brought up with the manufacturer for replacement.

I hope this was useful.
