Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a Hp Pavilion m8530f pc that stopped working yesterday. On startup diagnostics it said that it could not find internal hard drive. After calling HP Support, I was told that the hard drive probably went out and needed to be replaced (it was a Seagate Barracuda 750GB that came w/ pc). I purchased a new Seagate Barracuda drive (computer out of warranty) that had 1TB worth of data and tried to install today. After reattaching the power and sata connections I powered on the new drive. The computer initially found the drive but I powered off to load the system recovery discs that I had and now once I repower the pc the new drive no longer registers. I was running Windows Vista 64 (and the recovery discs from HP should reload the software), but now the pc does not find the new drive I just installed. Has anyone else had this problem?

The problem is when you have loaded the system recovery disc; the new hard drive got uninstalled or corrupted. You need to freshly reinstall the new drive . Hope that will solve your problem.

Let us know if you have something more to know else accept the suggestion.

I have unhooked and rehooked the sata cable from the motherboard and the drive itself several times (always w/ the power off of course). I have also tried using different sata ports on motherboard and I can not get anything other then the Reboot and Select proper Boot device error on the screen. I have also tried removing and reattaching the power connection to the new hard drive. What else do I need to do to reinstall the new drive?

I have tried detaching and reattaching both the power connections and the sata connections to the new hard drive. I also unplugged and replugged the power cables into the drive. What else do I have to do to reinstall the new drive?

I have an hp pavilion a320n desktop and once turned on it boots through the bios and then stops leaving a cursor blinking in the top left corner

Have you tried your onboard diagnostics? Stop the boot process after your machine boots through the BIOS, with F12 (I believe) You want to get to the boot menu. There you should see diagnostics. Run that.

The other possibility is a bad hard drive. You can test it with the onboard diagnostics. The easiest way to do it is to get into your BIOS and have a look at your boot devices. Your hard drive should be the first device.

I can't open my dvd drive on hp pavillion m 8530f pc desktop. Drive is visible by computer, can't find the little paper clip hole to open the drive physically

There should be a flap door on the outer casing, use your nail to pull down the flap from top, this should expose the internal dvd drive, now insert paper clip in the hole to pop the door open and pull out.

Hi there,

I have the exact same problem with my HP HDX 16. I would suggest calling the HP techcenter and exlaining the problem to them. Chances are they will want to take a look at it and will possibly replace your laptop. I haven't yet done this, but have allowed my computer to rest for a while. Leave it shut down for maybe 30-60mins and then try rebooting. Hopefully you will atleast be able to start it in safe mode with command promt. Open the command promt as the administrator and type CHKDSK which will perform a check for bad sectors in the hard drive. Hope this helps. otherwise give HP a call :)

It could also be the conncetion came loose, which can happen with IDE hard drives if the laptop gets moved around a lot. Remove the hard drive and take it to an electronics store to have it tested, or if you have a friend with an external enclosure (2.5" IDE interface, they cost between$10-20) you can hook it up to another computer via the USB port
