Any EIDE (non Sata) interal drive should work on this computer. However, first I would check the internal cables on the drive to ensure the are plugged in tight (you may just have a loose cable). Check both the mother board end and the drive end.
Personally I would go puppy linux over 98, but that is me.
"This model of computer does not have a blu-ray drive unless you got a third party upgrade. In this case, you will need to track down special drivers, which can best be done by whomever sold you the drive.
Have you considered checking your DVD writer? Also, you might already have a faulty hard disk drive. You can try any of the following: 1. Double check to see if your Windows 7 installation disk is dirty (clean it using a lint free cloth) or has many scratches. (Your DVD reader/writer would really have a hard time reading scratched disks.) 2. Borrow another DVD-ROM from a friend and use it to install Windows 7 on your computer's C drive. 3. Check to see if ALL cables are properly connected. i.e. SATA, power cables, etc. 4. You could also try to make your 500 GB HDD as a slave drive so that you can backup your files to another media if it works. (Backup to another external hard disk drive, burn it to DVD's, etc.) 5. LISTEN carefully if your hard drive makes unusual noises like unusual clicking, bumping, and/or scratching sound inside your hard disk drive. If it does and as a last resort, replace your hard disk drive.
It is obvious that the LG DVD does not have the capacity to carry DVDs with large gb as your DVD plate. But before I can conclude this, try cleaning the lens, maybe it might be weak and that's why its not carry dvd's with such large gb.
