Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. If you can provide me with a mmake and model number I can tell you exactly what parts to order and change including the source to correct the problem you describe.

These parts are in most cases are:
1. The drum bearing ring: (not always bad)
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/WHIRLPOOL-Bearing-ring-for-front-support-item-number-AP2996731.aspx

2. The front drum (Replace)seal: http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=3131525

3. The rear drum seal: (replace) http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/WHIRLPOOL-Rear-drum-felt-seal-with-adhesive--red-thread--item-number-AP3094149.aspx

4. Roller kit and belt: (replace) http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/WHIRLPOOL-Dryer-repair-kit--29-inch-large-capacity-models--item-number-AP3131942.aspx

These are the most common failures. I would recommend ordering and replacing all parts 2 - 4. Doing this will ensure your dryer will last for a long time trouble free. (tumbling)

Amana electric dryer ALE643RBW drum wont turn and is very dificult to move by hand

it could be the rear drum bearing(if equipped),the rollers that support the drum have dried up and won't turn, bad drum glides(if equipped) or the motors bearings could be tightening up from lack of oil in the bearings, you need to remove the top and front covers to inspect for all these issues

Drum will not spin

its possible that there is something caught in blower, verify this by removing front . if drum turns freely by hand you probably have a bad belt

The machine appears by the sound of it to be only turning at half its normal speed clothes take longer to dry

You could have something inside the dryer dragging on the dryer drum. You can unplug the dryer and lift the top *(your dryer lid is held on by spring clips just push up on the front edge and it should pop open, tilting up and back) Look around for anything in the area of the drum that doesnt belong there...a sock...a pair of shorts...dryer lint...you get the idea.

If you dont see anything you may have a drum roller going bad. That will take a bit of dexterity to check out but you should be able to see if one of the roller looks like it isnt turning. Give the drum a turn by hand and see if a roller is hung up.

Good luck and be careful.

My dryer makes a weird noise when running, kinda like the drum is rubbing against something, could that be a worn belt?

depending on the make and model of the machine the drum glides or rollers need replacing,to accomplish this you need to remove the front cover by removing toe kick panel screws and lifting up on cover, you get instructions with the glides or rollers on replacement when you buy them

Hi I have a Maytag MDE4000AYW dryer. It is making a squeeking sound off and on when it runs. I took the front off and kinda lifted the drum up and down and it made it without the belt actually turning,...

Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.
You did the right thing by removing the front of the machine, that is how you check the drum rollers, idler arm with pulley and the motor.
Unplug the dryer, remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt, remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers.
Check your rollers for flat spots, if they have flat spots on them replace them.
If they don't then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the roller with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve you noise problem.
Good Luck,
I hope this helps

How to get into the cabinet? I have a Kenmore Dryer that hums but the drum won't turn, maybe belt! Model # 110 62942100 thanks, tom

Hi,

Kenmore dryer belt

  • UNPLUG DRYER
  • remove lint filter
  • remove two screws in lint filter panel securing cabinet lid to filter frame
  • with putty knife or other blunt blade, depress clips ~2inches in from the front corners of the lid to release cabinet lid
  • tilt lid up
  • remove 1 screw from each side 1/3 the way down
  • remove cabinet front and door
  • motor bearings tensioner are all visible

  • lift out drum forwards
  • check support rollers felts and nylon glide bearings for wear
(worn bearing surfaces are the most common cause of belt breakage, and you dont want to do it again next month)
  • make sure tensioner is still installed in cabinet base, sometimes breaking belts pull them out
  • loop belt around drum at prior wear marks
  • reinsert drum
  • pull tensioner to end of travel against spring
  • loop belt around motor pully and tensioner
  • relax tensioner
  • rotate drum by hand to make sure belt wont jump off.
Thanks

Electrolux FGX831FS1 dryer drum, only spins one way manually

Check inside the drum to make sure the three screws in a triangle in the rear center are all there, if they fall out the drum goes off center and the motor can no longer drive it.
This model has no rollers, the front of the drum has plastic glides mounted on the front of the drum that ride on teflon impregnated pads that are glued around the door.
The rear is supported by a steel ball screwed to the rear of the drum (the 3 screws that I think are causing your troubles) that rides in a plastic saddle screwed to the rear of the machine.
If the excess drum movement is only up and down you should replace the front glide system.
Good Luck
Quentin

Squeeky Noise

Raise top by prying lose clips on front, remove 2 screws holding front in place (inside cabinet) and disconnect wirings, removed front (panel with door) panel, removed 4 screws holding inside front panel in and lifted it out, released tensioner from belt, lifted out drum out of unit, vacuumed accumulated lint from machine, motor, wiring, checked and greased drum rollers and tension pulley, cleaned drum edge from accumulated roller debris using automotive brake rotor cleaner, reintsalled drum, applied automotive belt dressing to belt and reassembled. Working for now. If reoccurs I will replace drum rollers and tension pulley.

Hot point dryer

the drum has dropped
the drum is suspended on felt pads to seal the drum edges, nylon guides at the front, and rubber tyred thrust rollers to withstand the torque of the motor and belt at the rear.
the usual cause is the rollers have failed, common fault, easy fix, cheap too
good rollers look like this
1ac2db2.jpg worn rollers like this
34b5f0e.jpg
try not to run the dryer till the rollers are replaced, the extra strain will break the belt,

  • unplug dryer(220v is Not Fun)
  • remove lint screen
  • undo screws inside lint screen holder, screwing it to case lid (so lid can tilt up)
  • with putty knife or other blunt blade, release spring catches under front corners of case lid
  • raise case lid
  • remove screws 1/3 way down front corners of body holding front panel on
  • remove door switch cable from door switch
  • lift door off set aside
  1. drum motor felts and bearings are now accessible.
  2. pull tensioner fully agains spring
  3. remove belt from motor pulley
  4. lift drum and withdraw fully forwards
  5. with drum removed check support rollers for free movement, check drum slides and/or drum felts for wear
reassemble.
  1. loop belt loosely around drum at wear marks from prior installation
  2. reinsert drum onto rollers bearings slides felts as installed.
  3. loop belt around motor pulley
  4. pull tensioner pulley against spring to end of its travel
  5. loop belt around tensioner pulley
  6. relax tensioner pulley to tighten belt
  7. rotate drum by hand to ensure belt is aligned
reassemble case in reverse order.
