Lexmark Scanner - "cannot retrieve application list" Won't Scan - HELP please!

My Lexmark 5400 series has just recently stopped working. It says "cannot retrieve application list". The printer and fax work just fine. I just installed the new Norton Internet security. I think that this might have affected it. Any solutions?

    i have the same problem with my lexmark 3500 4500 series. it asks me to select a computer so i select the one its connected to of course, it then says 'downloading application list' and after a few moments comes up with 'cannot retrieve application list'. its very annoying as no-one seems to have any explanation for this. i checked that the scanner drivers have been added and the rest of the printer works fine. HELP PLEASE ITS DRIVING ME MAD!!!

    Unable to Retrieve Scan Application List on the Lexmark 3500-4500 Series

    What you will see


    It is not possible to retrieve the scan application list during the Downloading Application List step. To determine if the resolution below should be used, the following should also be applicable:


    • It is possible to print either with a network or USB connection.

    • It is possible to scan using Windows Photo Gallery (in Windows XP using the Scanner and Camera wizard). NOTE: This can only be tried with a USB connection.

    • If scanning from the Imaging Studio software, you should be able to
      scan with a USB connection but the Scan to PC option from the operator
      panel should fail when connected via USB.

    Resolution


    There is a patch that you can download and run to resolve this issue.

    Step 1:
    Download the following patch: ftp://ftp.lexmark.com/driver/inkjet_drivers/3500-4500/3500-4500.exe


    1. To start the process, double-click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to continue.

    2. Reboot the PC.

    3. Unplug the power adapter from the back of the printer.

    4. Plug it back in after 30 seconds.

    5. Try to scan again.

      If the problem still exists, follow Step 2 below.

    Step 2:

    I recommed you never buy Lexmark printers. I have a X4580 with the same problem as everybody else. Have had the printer changed three times. They really are rubbish. I am going to throw mine in the bin

    I have the Lexmark X4530 and it is saying the same thing: "Cannot retrieve Application List". I went to Lexmark's website and followed their instructions to fix this problem. I was able to get three scans to work and then it stopped again. I have had this model for about a year and each time I need to scan something I have to download the driver again. And each time it only works for a few minutes. They suggest using the 'Scan' button on their 'Lexmark imaging suite' from your computer. There is no Scan button on the screen or anywhere on there. It clearly tells you to use the controls on the printer, which of course doesn't work. I do not recommend buying a Lexmark printer.

    Lexmark 6300 - After appx. 30 scans I got the same 'application list' problem, copier works fine, but cannot scan..after seeing all the reports of people having the exact same issue on so many different models and the fact that Lexmark neither lists my product on their website or offers any kind of real help for these issues, this will be the last Lexmark product I will use. I will make sure everyone I know is aware of this and to not waste their money on Lexmark products.

    Disable your Firewall and it will allow it to scan. I have the exact same scanner and had the same issue when I installed the new Avira. So whenever you go to sue it, disable to firewall and it will be able to retrieve the application list so that you can use it.

    I ahve the exact same scanner and had the same problem when I installed the new Avira. Disable your firewall while using the Lexmark scanner and it will be able to retrieve the application list. Enable it again when your finsihed of coarse. But this will at elats make your scanner useable again.

Microsoft Paint ----> 'File' -----> 'From scanner or camera' (while the Lexmark is in scan mode). Just tried it and it really works.

    OH MY GOODNESS! That is a pure stroke of genius. Well done, that does absolutely work. Whatever is wrong with the Lexmark communication between pc and printer, ie it just doesnt work no matter how many times you download the driver, or stand on one leg and face north, it dont work. This work around it classic and it works. Excellent, brillant, thank you. Good lateral thinking!

    Actually, I've had a lot of issues scanning with my Lexmark at first too!

    I work a lot with Photoshop after I scan in pictures/cards etc with my Lexmark X4690 (Windows Vista SP2 64 Bit OS)... this theory also works in Photoshop just as it does in MS-Paint!!

    All you have to do is:
    Click----->'File' ---> 'IMPORT' ---> 'Lexmark 3600-4600 Series' (or whatever Lexmark Model you may have CLICK THAT!)...

    After that another window should pop-up... asking you "What do you want to scan?...using Lexmark 3600-4600 Series... from here you adjust the settings as you would in the Lexmark Productivity Studio suite. Only thing is, you won't need that anymore!

    HIT 'SCAN'... and when its done you should have not only scanned your document/picture/card etc.. you will have also imported it into Photoshop for editing!!

    I have a lexmark x6570 all in one and my printer works just fine but when trying to make a copy or scan items it prints/displays a all black document. I contacted lexmark support and they tried to trouble shoot it thru the serial number but no help. I have been uninstalling and reinstalling for hours now trying to get them to work. I even just tried thru the instructions above and still black documents. Can someone PLEASE help me?

I have a Lexmark X5495 – This worked GREAT for me so Good luck.
1) Power on the Lexmark.

2) Unplug the device from the back of the Printer

3) Wait exactly 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

4) (Assuming you have windows xp) Go to start/All programs/ Lexmark XXX

5) Open the Lexmark Productivity Studio (depending on your model of Lexmark)

6) Click on Scan – The device should be working now.

7) You can also use the scan button now.

Same problem,but found that in my case, opening Lexmarks All In One Centre,and clicking on the scan icon there,scanning occurred normally.

    I don't have a Lexmarks All In One Centre...I went to the start menu--->Selected Lexmark Productivity Studio. Once the program opened I just clicked Scan and everything worked just fine. Thanks!

I had this problem. As long as you can print to the scanner, all you need to do is ensure that the Lexmark Imaging Studio is running on the machine before trying to scan.
There will be a little rainbow coloured flower icon in the System Tray if it is running. If it is not then Start > All Programs > Lexmark (Printer number) > Lexmark Imaging Studio to start it.

Must run Imaging Studio, or another connection software on the background. Otherwise, Lexmark "cannot retrieve application list".

Hi guys,

I encountered this problem with my Mac and found a workaround by killing and restarting two of the driver programs. This may not work for everyone, and is probably no use to people seeing this problem on a Windows/Linux box (sorry).

Script:
killall LexmarkNetworkServices
killall "3500-4500 Series Button Monitor"
open "Library/Application Support/Lexmark/LexmarkNetworkServices.app/"
open "/Library/Application Support/Lexmark/3500-4500 Series Scanner.bundle/Contents/SharedSupport/3500-4500 Series Button Monitor.app/"

    My x6650 has not been able to scan since the install of Windows 7. sometimes if I do a complete reinstall of the printer I can scan one or two pages, then it says
    cannot retrieve application list
    again. Key symptom - lists computers that do not exist, but not the one I am trying to scan to.
    Definitely unplug the USB port before scanning to the wireless connection.
    I really did not mean to buy a 3 in 1 printer, I need a 4 in 1.

Same problem resolved on my Lexmark X4530 on Windows Vista with the following:

I have had this problem repeatedly with an S305 on my OSX Mac. ... It prints just fine, but can't download the application list to scan.
Strangely enough, I've found that if I *unplug* the S305 (don't just power it down), wait about 10 seconds, and plug it back in, the machine usually returns to full functionality. Doesn't work the first time, try it again.
This is not to say that Lexmark's products which suffer this problem are well-designed or aren't pains in the posterior.

I got my printer scanner to work::
Uninstall program::
Disconnected the USB ::
Restart computer::
Lexmark 5400 Disc in ::
My computer ::
Open disc Lexmark 5400::
Install from >Applications ::
Click and open applications::
Click setup to start setup
In the setup I did not install fax as I have not got a telephone line

At the end of setup it did not install drivers
The USB connection will
I then connected the USB
Computer: Found new hardware wizard and this found the drivers
On my machine wizard it did it twice
whaler it works

What you need to do is check to see if your scanner is using the same wireless network as your computer. Push the "scan button," now select your network, finally choose computer if you have more than one using the machine. If your not on the same wireless network, open your lexmark productivity studio to configure scanner. You may be asked to connect your computer to your scanner using a usb connection so have it on hand. Run the diagnostics and you should be set.

    My suggestion would be to check your firewall. Some Security programs change your settings to make sure your totally protected. Just go to Control Panel and select the Firewall icon. Click "Exceptions" tab and locate your printer and it's additional programs that need to get online. If you cannot find your printer, select "Browse" to locate. Hope this helps....

It's not a "fix" per se, but try scanning from the printivity center. I was able to do this when scanning to network was unable to retrieve the application list.

The "Paint" option below DID work, but, better still, I went to the Lexmark site and downloaded the latest full install for my OS, Win 7, 64 bit, then went through what seemed to be the exact same installation procedure as with the CD that came with the printer/scanner/copier, the S301 series, including not hooking up the USB cable until so instructed, and, Voila'! It now seems to work as intended. I guess that's what you get when you buy a $40 Lexmark item.

delete the norton internet security as its blocking the scanner files of your printer software .or try reloading the printer drivers again but if reloading the printer drivers does not helps then removing the norton software is compulsary as the files of printer are getting blocked so scanner is not working.

choose your version of OS ( OS 10 X, 10.3, etc) and download the file.
Before you install the software in your computer, I would disconnect the printer's USB cable, and wait for the installation program to prompt you to connect it.
I believe that will take care of your problem.

Fax works except scan option


that's is a driver issue..
you need to uninstall your current printer driver and then restart your computer ..
and then install it again,,,
because your scanner application has been corrupt..

please let me know if it solve the problem..

delete the norton internet security as its blocking the scanner files of your printer software .or try reloading the printer drivers again but if reloading the printer drivers does not helps then removing the norton software is compulsary as the files of printer are getting blocked so scanner is not working.

Microsoft Paint ----> 'File' ------> 'From scanner or camera' (when in scan mode on printer). Just tried this and it really works.

Problem: Lexmark cannot retrieve applications list

I have the Lexmark X3550 with the WiFi option board installed (makes it same as the model X4550) and get the “cannot retrieve applications list” message on one of the five computers connected to my router (Linlsys WRT54G V8) and using wireless printing and scanning. Just like everyone else with a similar Lexmark WiFi printer/scanner, I can print wireless, but cannot get the wireless scanner to work on one of my PCs.

The fix, in my case, was to change the Lexmark network name as follows.

1. Launch Lexmark Imaging Studio.
2. Right-Click on “View or change network settings”.
3. Enter a new network name in the first box shown. (This box contained the correct network name for my PC, but another name was needed to make the scanner work. I simply added “-lex” at the end of the current network name.)
4. Right-Click OK. You should return to the Imaging Studio screen.
5. Close the Lexmark Imaging Studio window. (The tray icon should remain at the screen lower right.)
6. On the printer, press the Scan Mode button.
7. On the printer’s display screen, select the Computer Name that you entered for the new network name. Just use the arrow buttons until the exact name is shown.
8. Press the Check button. The display screen should show “Downloading Applications List”. Within about 10 seconds the message should change to “ *Scan to Computer ”. Wireless scanning should now work.
9.. Press the Start Color or Start Black button. “Requesting Scan” will be shown. After a few seconds scanning will start. The process is a bit slow.
10. After a while you may see an empty small Lexmark window onscreen. Later, the Lexmark Imaging Studio will appear onscreen, then change to show many options and features. An image of the scanned item will appear in a Lexmark window. Save and/or edit the image. Another scan can be done by pressing the printer’s Check button again. Be sure the correct computer name is shown on the printer’s display.

That’s it. A new computer name was the solution. Your PC and printer may require a restart (power off) after changing the “computer name”.

Lexmark X5470 scanner problem


i had the same problem but if you open the Lexmark All-In-One center (can be found in start --> all programs --> lexmark 5400 series --> all-in-one center) and select scan (it will work)

if you dont have the program installed find your installation disk and when u re-install it, it should come up again
