Hi,

I am Sorry to hear regarding the Problem. This is a ' Lens Problem ' which is Quite Common on these Models.

It is not worth to get it Repaired, as the Cost of repair would be quite high as compared to the cost of the new camera.

There are a number of things you can try:

1. Ensure batteries are fully charged

2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand or other dirt etc

3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck

4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 2 minutes and refit

If no luck then we have to try some things that could possibly result in damaging your camera so should only be tried if happy to take that risk...

5. Try thumping the camera into your other hand, by thumping into your hand you are trying to jar the mechanism loose, by using your hand you will hopefully not do it too hard or it will hurt. You may need to do this a dozen or so times in different places to work. I have found the flat of the camera bottom into the flat of your hand best..

6. If the lens is stuck in the out position then remove the batteries and try twisting the lens first one way then the other, do not apply excessive force when doing this or you can break gears, you are trying to reposition not force... Likewise if the lens looks like it is crooked you can try pushing it back into position. This has a higher chance of doing more harm than the thump so please be careful...

7. Dismantle the camera, not for the faint hearted, you need to dismantle the lens assembly into the main body of the camera

There is a blog where few other techniques are mentioned :-

If no luck then only other option is a serviceman I'm afraid, be sure to get a quotes as camera repairs can be uneconomical

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

When i try to turn my camera on it sounds like its going to turn on but it stops and gives me the message on the screen Lens error 111. then it shuts off. I've been messing with it and i can get it to...

Often times a lens error comes up when the lens extension/focus mechanism has been jammed. It may almost fully function, but then the gears run into a small spot where those tiny gears are jammed, broken, have debris on them, etc. When the motor hits unexpected resistance, the camera kicks back the lens error code and shuts down before it does further damage to itself. Make sure there isn't anything wedged between where the pieces of the lens slide past each other. Past that, the best solution I can offer is to look on ebay... most cameras either die because the lens mechanism breaks, or because the LCD screen breaks. If you can find a donor camera with a bad screen, you can combine the best of both at a pretty reasonable price. These cameras are quite complicated to transplant, but fortunately most lens mechanisms and sensors are a full unit of themselves, and so are the lcd screens. Before investing in the donor camera, take yours apart and see how difficult it appears to be to work on it. Then make your decision. Good luck!

The camera says lens error 111 what do i do to turn it on

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort things that you can do that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth a try.

When I turn camera on lens error 111 shows up on screen and goes right off and lens does not come out

Make sure all the moving parts of the lens are free to move. If you dropped the camera or spilled something sticky on the lens part, it may be stuck and the camera cannot turn on.

Try this at you own risk:

1. Try jiggling the lens with your fingers while turning on the camera, helping it to pull out.
2. If there is something sticky keeping the lens from opening, try to use a warm damp cloth to dissolve it.
3. If nothing works, bring it to a repair center. You may also try the solutions provided in this other fixya article.
