The battery could have shorted out in the fall. If you can, check the battery voltage.Use a multimeter and measure the battery voltage - if it's lower than 3v it could be responsible for that problem.
If you don't have a multimeter to check, replace the battery. Or, borrow someone's battery (only if they have the same iPhone) to test.
