Question about Ovens

1 Answer

I was cleaning my kitchenaid gas range using the self-cleaning feature. Near the end of the cleaning cycle, the display on the control panel went out and the cycle shut down. The panel has not come back on, the door is still locked and we cannot run any of the oven controls. The stove top works fine. We have checked the breaker - it is fine. We have unplugged - left it unplugged, then plugged back in - still nothing.

The electrical controls for the oven have failed and must be replaced. The unit must be dismantled and the correct parts ordered and fitted.
If you haven't done that before it's better to leave it to a pro. Call an authorised repairman, gas isn't something to mess with. Select from one of this official list

How does the self-clean feature work on a Frigidaire CFEF366EMB model?

Hi Beverly,

I understand that you are looking to run your self-clean feature on your Frigidaire range, model# CFEF366EMB.

-To start this you will remove all racks and make sure that any excessive spillovers are cleaned up as best as you can.
-Next you will press the "Clean" button, and the display will show "---".
-Press the up or down arrows to select the length of time you want the oven to clean. Usually 2 or 3 hours.
-The door will automatically lock once your time has been chosen and the "LOCK" indicator light will flash. DO NOT open the door while the light is flashing. (it takes about 15 seconds for the oven door to lock).
-"Cln" will appear in the display during the self-clean cycle and the "LOCK" light will continue to glow until the self-cleaning cycle is complete or cancelled and the oven has cooled.

When the self-clean cycle has completed:
-The time of day or "END" will appear in the display window and the "Clean" and "LOCK" light will continue to glow.
-Once the oven has cooled down for about 1 HOUR and the "LOCK" light has gone out, the oven door can be opened.
-If "END" is in the display and the Clean indicator light remains ON, press the "CLEAR/OFF" button and the time of day will appear on the display.
-When the oven is cool, wipe away any residue or powdered ash with a damp cloth or paper towel.

-Best Regards-

It is a free standing kitchen aid oven. I put it on quick self clean and it said it would end at 2:00. The panel went blank at 1:20 and it is past 2:00 and it is still locked. I checked the circuit br

Unfortunately KitchenAid ovens notoriously blow a thermal fuse when you use the self cleaning cycle, and if you're lucky that's all that happened. Hopefully your oven is still under warranty. If so, call KitchenAid customer service and they will repair it for free.

If you're handy you can check/replace the thermal fuse yourself (requires pulling out the oven and taking off the back panel, finding and replacing the fuse- be sure to turn off power and gas first).

I don't see the make and model number of your unit. I only see part of your post. Please post the make and model number. It should be a simple fix. From what I do see in your post, it sounds like the control board will need to be replaced.

I used the cleaning feature on my kitchen aid architect series oven KEBK101 - now when you turn the oven on it does not heat up - what part do I need to replace - Kitchenaid will not address

Yup Thermofuse stops the elements from heating after the self-cleaning cycle. You have to take out the oven, TURN OFF THE POWER at your circuit breaker, remove all the screws on the oven back panel, you'll see the thermofuse near the center (there are two 1/4" spade connectors (one leads from one leg of the power junction box). Two screws to remove it.

Self Clean cycle on Hotpoint Gas range doesn't work

We see a symptom like this due to a failure in the control board. Although it usually also affects bake mode. Another cause could be a problem with the door lock as it must be engaged (by the controller) to initiate self-clean.

If this doesn't help, you can either post the full model number or email me at bruce@fixyourboard.com and we can dig deeper.

Kitchenaid double digital convection conversion oven keypad went out. Any ideas on the problem. Electric panel circuit breakers are okay. Sharon C.

I think these use the same controller board as the Jenn-air units, they have a weak capacitor (C3) on the control board (Timer/control Display). Remove the top panel and look for a discolored or leaking capacitor (usually black about 1/2" high 3/8" in accross). Replace the capacitor and the problem goes away, until next time you use the self clean cycle which seems to overheat the control board and ruin the capacitor.

How to remove the control panel on Whirlpool double oven Model RBD305PDS14

Remove the doors by turning toward you a little toggle apparatus located on each hinge. Locate a small screw on the lower inside edge of the left and right hand trim and then slide off the trim. Remove the lower trim then raise the upper trip and put the left end of the panel inside the top opening. This allows you access to the control panel. Test both the keypad part #8300440 and the control panel part #830219 to see which one needs to be replaced. Order the replacement part, plug it in, reverse the precess above and it should work like new..
