No,no sound at all. The light on the front just flashes when the on button is pushed the fan starts to turn as fast as you can blink it shuts down. Nothing shows on the monitor. However the power light on the back by the powercord remains ON.

Hshorty,

When you press the plastic Power On button, it in turn presses against a Power On switch.
The Power On switch is located inside the plastic Power On button.

This is an example of a generic ATX Power On switch,

http://www.directron.com/atxswitch.html

The switch completes a circuit.
(The Power On switch is a Momentary Contact Switch. Makes a brief contact, then opens back up)

The circuit the Power On switch completes, is the 5 Volt Standby circuit.
When a Power Supply is plugged into power, there is a constant 5 Volts (DC) present.
Closing this 5 Volt Standby circuit, momentarily 'excites' the Power Supply, and turns the Power Supply on.

Power goes to the Motherboard, and Peripherals, (Harddrive, optical drive/s, and so on)
The first chip to receive power is the BIOS chip.
(Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C. Integrated Circuit)

The BIOS program on the BIOS chip, looks to see what devices are installed, does a Ram Memory count, TURNS the Processor on, and hands the computer over to the O/S.
(O/S = Operating System. Windows XP is one example of an O/S)

Your Power Supply doesn't even have enough power to light those LED lights, much less turn the Processor on.

A) ALL the LED lights together, use less than 1 Watt of power.

B) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts.

C) A typical Processor can use 51 to 125 Watts. Depends on what Processor it is. (Older Processors use less than 51 Watts)

If this problem is in reference to a Compaq Presario SR5130NX desktop computer, it comes with an Athlon 64 X2 - 3800+ Processor.

(Windsor Core. Also this Processor uses an AM2 processor socket)

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01048297&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3436820

This Processor can use up to 89 Watts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Athlon_64_microprocessors#.22Windsor.22_.28F2_.26_F3.2C_90_nm.29

Fans start to spin, and the LED power light is on for the Power Supply. When it's time to turn the Processor on, too much power is needed, and the Power Supply 'drops to it's knees'.

The Power Supply used is just a common ATX style of power supply. (Actually it is an ATX 12V 2.x)
Used in a LOT of personal computers out there, and is readily available.
It's a 300 Watt unit.

(The ATX form factor for this Power Supply, (Size and shape), is approximately 6 inches Long, 6 inches Wide, and 3-1/2 inches Tall)

Power cables from the Power Supply needed are;

A) 24-pin ATX main power cable (Main power cable to motherboard)

B) 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable, (Also known as P4)

C) At least one SATA power cable for the SATA harddrive, and additional SATA power cables, for each SATA optical drive.

(Your Presario may have come with SATA optical drive/s, or IDE {PATA} optical drive/s. Optical drive = CD/DVD drive)

D) If your Presario came with IDE, (Also known as PATA), optical drives, you'll need a standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable, for each drive.

E) The computer case fans, may each use a standard 4-pin Peripheral power cable. (The Processor fan attaches to the Motherboard)

F) The Memory Card Reader needs a Floppy Drive power cable. An auxiliary power cable.

An example of a compatible Power Supply,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4465483&CatId=1079

(Wasn't supposed to be stated as a Clarification)

Push power button and the power light turns amber and lights up then shuts off. the light in back of the computer is light green and it starts to turn on then dies

The fact that ity is trying to start and shuts off after ..it seams that it is the CPU fan to blame ...If the fan fails to start the CPU will turn the computer down instantly due to the temperature limit ..(in 1 or 2 sec ) ..
so ...open it up ..and see if the fan is spinning ...on start ..and if it is not ...check the connection with the board or replace it ..
(by the way ..this may also be a CPU failure ..and need another one ) ..

Lamp Fan should not cut off and on it should run at all times when TV is Turned on.Lamp Fan is designed to run when set is turned on to Keep Lamp Cool otherwise Lamp will burn up.
Yes Bad optical unit block could also cause set to shut down. But most of them will Play but with Dots,Green yellow tinit or Big blue Spots

Well my mom was watching tv and it just shut off so then my mom turned it back on thinking she might have hit the power button accidentally. But when she turns it on it started blinking the green light for...

The flashing light red power light should only stay while the fan cool down for about 1 minute after a power off (remember to always wait before unplugging the TV so the lamp can cool down with the fan). Does that flashing start right away after plugging back the TV after an hour of letting it without AC power.

The red light should flash no longer than 10 sec. This prepare the light to be turned on. If all is OK the green should stay (no longer flashing) and the sound and picture come on.

As for the lamp flashing, i bet it's only 1 time each 5 sec? Or do it group many rapid flash each 5 sec?

Things that can be wrong:
-the fan lamp

-the lamp is not proprely inserted (wait an hour before manipulating it to be sure it cooled down, and use glove to not put body oil on it).

-Lamps is defective and is not operating properly so you can't get to the usual on screen message that recommend to change the lamp.

Sxrd 50 won't turn on - Cooling system or dlp lamp?

4 blinks is a fan error, check and see if the fans are clogged with dirt. Unplug the set then take the back off and get some canned air and blow the fans out.

Acer Aspire 5520 does not start up, power light blinking green

I think it might be the motherboard, if its not regulating the voltage properly then to much will go thru the motherboard and the fan won't be able to cool things down properly. Eventually then the motherboard will fail and then no video like your having now.

Try these steps anyway just to be sure:

only hook up the AC Adapter keep the battery disconnected. See if it turns on, if you still get a blinking green light then go ahead and turn the laptop off.

At this point, unseat and reseat the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at a time. Try turning on the laptop after each stick reinsertion.

If that doesn't do it then disconnect the hard drive and the dvd drive from the laptop.

Then try turning on the laptop, if you still can't get video then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

At this point at least you would know for sure.

My projector doesn't stay on. what's wrong?

either the lamp cannot strike (meaning a ballast or lamp issue) or there the fans are not up to speed to sufficientl;y cool down the lamp and therefore shut down to avoid damage.
