2003 new beetle radio/tape player is stuck on "2 Safe" because I tried to reprogram it myself. I have the code but I can't get out of that safe mode and back to "1000".

Hello,

you can find an information on how to get your player off safe mode by checking the sound system manual. But if you don't have the sound system manual, you can follow the below steps because that's what's on the manual.

Perform the steps in exactly the following order:

1. Turn on the Radio. "Safe" will appear in the display.
2. After 3 seconds, the number "1000" will appear in the display.
3. Use the radio station preset buttons 1 to 4 to enter the code number found on your Radio Card. (which was in the first page of Sound manual)
Use preset button 1 to enter the first digit in the code number. Use button 2 to enter the second digit, etc. The value range for each of the 4 digits is "0-9". The digit will increase by 1 each time you tap the preset button. The number returns to "0" after 9".
4. After you finish entering the code, press the right side (">") of the SEEK button for longer than 2 seconds until you hear an audible signal.
5. If you have entered the code number correctly, "LSM" will appear in the display.

If you've accidentally entered a wrong code number, "SAFE" will appear in the display. Initially it will flash, then stay on.

You can repeat the procedure again one time. (So, 2 attempts then 1 hour locked). If the wrong code number is entered again, the unit will be disabled for about 1 hour. Leave the unit on and the key in the ignition switch for this hour.

At the beginning of the manual, as other said, it states that dealership will help you free of charge. (apparently, they don't)

I hope this helps to solve your problem.

Good luck.

Does the "2 safe" error message signify that I am allowed one more try before it locks up for an hour or does it mean that my second try failed too?

    Hello,

it means you are allowed another try before it locks up.

My 1998 vw beetle its stuck on 2 safe mode i need help getting that out thanks

First of all you should exit from 2 safe mode. Then turn ON the radio and let it turned ON for at least one hour, in order to exit from 2 safe mode.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must have the security anti-theft code for your VW radio from the car manufacturer, or from a VW dealer!

You can find the radio code at: http://www.radio-code.co.uk/

The sequence of VW radio programming is:
1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
For example: we have the security code "5079". Then:
3. By the no.# 1 key you will set up the first safe code digit. Push 5 times on the no.# 1 button. The "5" number will be setted.
4. By the no.# 2 key you will set up the second safe code digit. Push 10 times on the no.# 2 button. The "0" number will be setted.
5. By the no.# 3 key you will set up the third safe code digit. Push 7 times on the no.# 3 button. The "7" number will be setted.
6. By the no.# 4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit. Push 9 times on the no.# 4 button. The "9" number will be setted.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed.

In my 200 vw beetle tdi, the radio will not turn on. the fuse is good for the radio, so what else should i try

You need to remove the radio out from the dashboard using special removal VW radio Gamma keys. In the rear face of the unit is placed a fuse (red color) = 10 Amp. Replace blown fuse with a new one. Then you will need to exit the radio out from the security "SAFE" mode.

1998 vw new beetles radio is stuck on 2 safe how do I get it out of this mode?

Unlock radio in 98 beetle

I've had this happen twice when the battery died. It goes into the SAFE 2 mode if you try entering it and don't do it right and then you have to leave the radio on for 1 1/2 hours to have it come on to 1000 and then set it with each number one at a time and then hold down right reset until he beeps on. So, if you are discouraged as I was, the answer is to leave it on with the SAFE showing for over an hour and it probably will come on with the 1000 for setting eventually.
