Go to the SETTINGS menu and select the MAP INFO menu. Make sure that the check box by the uploaded map that you want to use is checked. If the map is not checked, then only the base map will appear. This allows different maps to be installed simultaneously.

Unfortunately deleted the maps suppled withe the device.Hve obtained the basemap and sum file on dics from garmin and have loaded it to the device however the maps are not showing up.Have downloaded...

The base map will just give you major highways. You are missing the gmapprom.img file which supplies all city streets. The sum file is not used and is only a checksum file to insure that the basemap was downloaded without errors. The map file, depending on year can be anywhere from 1 to 2GB in size and too large to be sent by email. In addition, you will need an unlock code file to activate the map on your unit. I CAN'T GET MY GARMIN TO SHOW THE COMPLETE ROUTE MAP IT WILL ONLY GIVE ME DESTINATION OR HOME POINT

When you select your destination, before you select go there is an option for map at the bottom of the screen. That will show you the entire route.

I have a garmin oregon 400t and I cant see the elevation lines, or topographical lines

You may be in an area where there is not enough topography for the topo lines to show up. Pan tothe Smokey Mountains and see if they show up.

Garmin GPS map 182: seems to work fine, but does not show navigational aids. Boat is tracked, and route is marked, plus previous routes shown. However, channel markers are not showing up. Any ideas?

Which channel markers? There is a settings menu for map detail, put that on highest (press menu once or twice to get to the setup menu)

Route calculation error

I was having the same problem and contacted Garmin support.

What I had done was turned off the Basemap that came with the unit. I only had the mapsource map street map on which I had purchased separately.

The technician basically said the unit needed the basemap to "locate itself". Somehow the basemap supports any maps you purchase separately. That seemed odd but once I turned the Basemap back on it calculated the routes and the error message went away.

If you have the Basemap off, try turning it on from the Map Setup - Information window.

Hope this helped.

Route problem

If you don't have "Detailed Maps" for the area you are travelling in, it will not have adequate map detail to create routes that are not on major highways.

To remedy this, you will need to use another of GARMIN's products... I believe it's called Mapsource City Navigator, and will have to be purchased for the area you are concerned with. This PC software will then allow you to load additional Map Data onto an SD card, which will slip into the slot on the left side of the unit.

You can find out about it at their website www.garmin.com then look in Maps
