Denon DRW-585 Single Cassette Deck

Transferring cassette to MP3

By pandamama - usenet poster

When transferring cassette tapes from my Denon DRW-585, I get intermittent
clicks in my MP3 files  like a slight "pop" from a phonograph. I should mention
I bought the tape deck "open box", but I haven't had any other problems with
the deck. Should also mention I have done many successful transfers from Hi-Fi
VHS recordings of live radio broadcasts without any "artifacts".

Wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and has come up with a
satisfactory solution.

TIA
I woke up and felt like an amputated leg.

Gary and Paul, thanks for the responses and great ideas. Unfortunately, it
looks like the culprit was the Denon deck. Borrowed a friends tape deck and it
works a treat. No clicks anywhere Clicks must be coming from somewhere inside
the Denon. Better get busy with my transfers before the borrowed deck has to go
back
All the best,
          Kevin.

Paul, thanks for the response. Removed the deck from the receiver it was
running through and connected it directly to the sound card (RCA phono to 1/8"
mini-plug), changed outlets and still ended up with the damn clicks. I am
beginning to think that the deck itself is buggered in some way. Penny-wise and
pound foolish with the warranty-less open box. I have a friend who is going to
lend me another deck for further testing. We'll see if I have better luck with
his machine and if I do, I'll know I have to scrap the Denon for this function.
All the best,
       Kevin

Hi there

My advice is to use high quality gold audio cables. I've been
transferring old cassette tape music with them for years.

Check the cables are clear, of any source of power etc, like monitors,
speakers. Get a cheap mixer, and then use that as it boosts the bass &
treble, plus a mixer is handy for doing Vinyl too. I use an old Tandy Mixer
with a Magnetic input for a turntable.
