It would be extremely helpful to know what type of fan is having the problem and what its intended function, i.e. ceiling fan, typical room oscillating fan, appliance fan, etc.

When I face with such problem in electric fan, it is better using diesel oil instead of grease. The motor of the fan cannot resist some grease due to its high viscosity. In addition, dust and grease make motor run more slowly. Have a little diesel oil into the axel of the fan, and let the fan rotate slightly. Diesel oil clean the axel. Please try it.

Is it a new ceiling fan? try oiling the motor. I f it didn't work, you can check the voltage and electrical wire.

First try the usual oiling method
if not solved check The speed regulator for any smell of Burn
finally ensure your capacitor is in good condition otherwise that may result in voltage drop across fan terminals

Try to replace your capacitor if the motor is well oiled.

CHECK THE THERMOSTAT. THERMOSTAT IS THE ONE THAT SENSE THE ENGINE TEMPERATURE AND TURNS ON COOLING FAN WHEN THE ENGINE IS HOT.

Engine temperature reaches to high before cooling cycle begins

could be a bad temp sensor or faulty thermostat. so by cooling cycle do you mean electric fan, or water circulation. a bad thermostat will slow circulation down causing overheat even if cooling fans are on. a bad sensor will not operate electric fan properly or at all and car will get hot at idle or slow speed and cooler at higher speed. Keep in mind that electric fans can turn on at any given time so KEEP ALL FINGERS AND LOOSE CLOTHIG AWAY at all times.

Sounds like a strip down of the fan and lubricate the bearings with sewing machine or thin cycle oil will do the trick.
Hope that helps.

Hi, is this fan an older fan with the dimmer type control on the fan itself, (and you have a wall speed control in addition to) or is it the later fan with a three speed pull chain control? If the latter, the service rep may have accidentally placed the fan on Medium speed which due to additional capacitance from the speed control board in the switch housing, could cause the symptoms you describe.

Thanks, Brian

P.S. That's an $$$$ fan, glad to see you had it repaired instead of replaced.

I just installed a Hunter five minute fan which says it is called the augusta. I have also installed several other hunter fans in my house through the years, and they seem to move extremely fast especially...

Speed is not a factor in moving air. You can move air with a little fan that runs real fast or you can move the same amount of air with a big fan that moves slow.

It is the pitch of the blades that moves air. Big blades with steep pitch moving slow are comparable to little blades with shallow pitch that move fast.

It seems to me someone is trying to baffel you with bull**** when they tell you CFM = watts or something similar.

The real question is, is the fan moving the air necessary to achieve the result you desire? If yes, speed is not really a factor.

Let me know if this helps you.

Read this on another thread - apparently the solution came from HB's tech support.
Turn the fan speed to HI and then select Reverse.  You should hear a "click" and see the fan reverse direction.  It seems that the reversing relay only works when the fan speed is set to HI.
Good Luck!!
