It's hard to find new parts for older sets like that one. It is very common to have to get boards rebuilt in older sets. Being the a/v board, I would feel pretty safe using a rebuilt board as long as lightning doesn't hit again. There isn't much that will cause one to fail other than lightning. A lot of shops will give you an estimate to replace the set, that you will then give to your insurance company if it's going to be that expensive.

Pioneer elite vsx-49tx Does anyone know of known issues with this unit? I cant get any sound output to my speakers, I can get sound to my headphones only if I use direct, but any other settings it goes out

If you have no sound, you can try the multi channel inputs on the back after switching to the multi chan input. If you have sound that way, you have a DSP problem. I can repair this issue to the component level, as many customers have found, the boards are very expensive, and no longer available. If you're interested in repairing your receiver, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. There you will find the seminar I wrote for Pioneer, when I worked there as a Field Service Engineer, specializing in audio. You can contact me directly from my website. Thanks you.

Lightning strike, power was out for no longer than a second and came back on - only TV has been effected and will not respond by remote or tv button. Shows it is on. But only getting fast clicking noise...

Hi Johnson,

Only 50% chance that the symptoms was caused by a lightning strike because your cable box was powering on fine. Most of the cases when lightning strike near to your area, possible of multiple damaged to the electronic device not only to one particular appliances, most especially if they are plugged into the outlet. Also, fuse will blew because of excessive voltage.

I've suspected that the symptoms was only a co-incidence of lightning strike. If you can hear the clicking of the relay, this is only means that the standby power supply is working fine. However, this board has multiple output voltage feeding the other boards to function well. This kind of symptoms is a power supply related problem.

If you have necessary tools and test instrument and handy with electronics, you can troubleshoot this board to find the faulty parts like open fusible resistors, shorted transistors/IC's, leaky electrolytic capacitor, etc.
Another option is to replace the entire power supply board, this is more convenient if you are going to DIY because no soldering required. Try to find you board HERE. Type the model no. of your unit to the search engine, available parts/board will be display.

Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.

I had a nearby lightning strike. Now I get "no

Hi
Just try with component input, and see whether it works fine. If it works fine with component input, the tuner section in your TV has got damaged. Soem Vizio sets will have dual tuner; one for analogue and the other for digital. Lighning stroke will damage the tuners first, than any other components inside a TV, because it has been alway connected to cable. Check the component video. If it also does not work, the mother board of your TV is faulty. Some type of fault will be repairable. If the fault is serious, you have to replace its main board istself. OK.

Power on, black screen, no audio, no video..........

Is this something you can handle repairing before we get started? There are several items that would need to be checked and if your not handy around live electrical circuits and boards then I suggest you call a repair man. These sets have plenty of high voltage areas that need to be checked. Have you checked the bulb and made sure it is not burned out? Are there any blinking codes on the front of the set? if so what is the color and pattern. I need this to help diagnose the issue.
Other wise I suspect a open solder joint in the convergence boards.
the most likely culprit for this is the stk chips on the convergence board (JVC didn't put nearly enough heat sink compound on should be a small layer all the way across they put on a couple dabs) I hear tale you can check this out by disconnecting the convergence board and turning on the set . only go after the convergence board from the front (behind the speaker grill is another panel, the convergence card is right behind there) there is a sneak circuit which will kick in possibly destroying at least the dvi input and mabie more if the set is powered on with the back removed and you didn't put a jumper in the right place or cover over a hole in the back of the dvi module.
The CRT driver ICs are prone to shorting and cause this symptom Often then is a small burn mark on the CRT board under the affected IC (but not always). The IC should be a TDA6111Q. Be sure to note the proper position
of the IC as it should face with the letters TOWARD the heat sink!!!

Had a lightning strike and the receiver will no longer turn on.

First try plugging the receiver into an outlet that is known to work. If it still does not work, look at the following:

Hopefully there is a fuse on your receiver that is blown. 2 options before it needs to be repaired by a professional:

1. Look on the back for any type of fusing house. It would be labeled "Fuse" and they are commonly held in by what looks to be a flat head screw.
2. If there is no fuse on the back of the unit, it is very possible that there is an internal fuse. Open the chassis, and carefully look for a fuse. It usually is about 1/4"diameter cylinder that is about an inch long. IF you are unfamiliar with electronics, it may be wise to skip the opening of your receiver.

Lightning Strikes can do a lot of damage. Hopefully its a blown fuse.

There is no picture no menu nothing will come on picture wise

Use the source button to ensure that source is not set to the wrong input. Try unplugging power cord for ten minutes, to ensure it is not a setting problem. Check all the video cables at the back of TV. Check Light /Color settings. If problem persist and does not depend on external receiver or settings, then it is likely an internal fault. If it has sound but no picture then one of the following parts is faulty, and must be tested and replaced: The inverter is the high voltage board that provides variable power to the backlight lamp. This is the most common. When inverter is faulty you can get no picture, or a very dim picture that can only be seen by pointing a torch light with a 45 degree angle on the LCD surface from very near distance. The inverter must be tested by reading voltages with a multimeter. The LCD ribbon cable/LCD display and connectors. This is quite uncommon, but happens. If the TV had been hit or moved the LCD cable may have slipped out, or the LCD connector may be damaged. Input/Output Signal boards. This are the boards where you connect the video and audio cables, if a signal board is defective, then you may get no picture on particular inputs located on faulty board. If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual. If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

We had a near lightning strike and now my tv (sanyo model ht27744)doesn't want to come on.

Lightening may have caused a surge on your power lines to the house and to the outlet the TV was on.
Do other things work on that outlet? If not you tripped a power breaker. If they do work check this.
Unplug the TV for 2 min or more and plug back in.
Try bypassing your surge protector you had it plugged into. It could have died when the lightening struck.
(no surge protector?) Bet you'll buy one for your next TV.
Look for 3000 joules and up rating for a surge protector and insure it has protection for a cable/antenna input too.
If this doesn't work the TV may be fried or internal fuse blown.
Time to take it to a repair shop or depending on it's age (5 years+) it may be time to buy a new TV and surge protector.
Near Lightening strikes can effect appliances from several inputs that could be affected from outside like Power, Cable, Antennas, Phone Lines that come into your house.

Top half of picture visible on Toshiba 35A44

Hello cjc07 The bad news is they are correct the vertical board is bad, the good news is the board can be repaired. Now it's what you have to do to repair the board is the problem. first you need a schematic and multimeter to show you what the voltages are on the board then using those voltages you can tell which components on the board are bad. Now here is even better news, the board might not have suffered all that much damage, maybe just enough to take out one component in the power supply which could cause this problem to. The fact is this set can be repaired, here are your options. 1) replace board 2) repair board and associative circuitry (this includes possible power supply damage.) There you go. If the board is no longer available, then option two becomes the only option on the table. Is the shop willing to repair the board and associative circuitry? If so take it back to them and have it done if you wish to have it repaired. Thank you, Shuttle83
