My nintendo wii wont play any games just keeps saying unable to read disk

  • Maybe your Wii is positioned wrong.
  1. If you have it laying flat on the ground you should check that the buttons and the SD card slot are UNDER the game disc slot.
  2. If you have your Wii positioned vertically make sure the disc label is faced to the right. Like this.
  • If none of the above helped and this happens with more than one game then bad news you might have to repair the console. Ask at the store where you bought it for more information on that.

Unable to read disc message. I put the game disc into the WII and it won't play. Keep getting a 'Unable to read disc message for any game disc that I try to insert.

This can be caused by a dirty laser in the drive. Try cleaning the laser with a q-tip and alcohol. If this does not fix the problem, the laser may need to be replaced. Contact Nintendo and see if the unit is still under warranty.

Unable to read disc message on Wii

Try a cleaning disc. this may fix this issue. if the issue remains, it will confirm a major problem within the optical assembly. you will need to replace the optical assembly in this case. it has failed.

Contact Nintendo for the optical replacement procedure.

Wii "unable to read disc"

If Wii gives Unreadable disc, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide

Wont read discs

If it only does this for this one game, you may have a defective game disc, it happens. Often, if you have just recently purchased it, you can return it to the store and tell them that it was defective and get a new one. If not, you can always try cleaning it though I doubt that's the problem.
nintendo.com says "If after reading the above information you are still unable to play a game disc, please call 1-800-255-3700 to discuss available options."
