Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

My washer is 4 years old and the last couple of times I used it, it made a very loud noise when it was in the spin cycle and now it is more quiet but it is not spinning all the water out.

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa.

Have you checked the pump to insure nothing is in there causing the noise, or do you believe it is coming from the main wash basket ?

I would rule out anything being in the pump first before declaring the main bearings or motor brushes being worn which can sound pretty loud, but usually just in the spin cycle.

I could possibly assist in directing you "how to" if I had a make and model number, or you can refer to your owners manual and that should have instructions on maintaining and cleaning the pump.

Let me know what you find out.

good luck

If you could tell us what kind of washer you have we might be able to help you. Please don't give a rating before you have given sufficient info to base a solution on...please, we aren't magic or mind-readers ! Not all washers are the same, hence simple noise caused by debris in the pump indeed could be the reason it won't spin properly, contrary to your position. You're asking us to generalize and then rejecting everything before investigating further and refusing to provide further info, that isn't fair to us and all we're doing is trying help YOU.

I'd like to help, but we here do require visitors to co-operate or you might as well make a guess on your own.

    Good luck,

    macmarkus :)

If it has automatic dispensers, there is a styrofoam ring along the top of the tub ring. Sometimes the ring rubs on the bottom of the dispensers. It doesn't hurt anything but it can be annoying. If it bothers you, reach in and pull it off. The ironic thing is, the ring is for noise suppression.

the noise is not the issue, the issue is that it did not spin the water out of my clothes.

Maytag washer makes loud grinding noise during the spin cycle

if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.

The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance

Extremely loud noise during spin cycle of my Neptune dryer--just started happening in the last month. The dryer is probably 7-8 years old, so it's not the newer Neptune model.

Loud knocking noise at end of spin cycle

Have you checked the wire harness ,because the tapping of just 2 wires hitting the cabinet is overlooked alot. The noise just 2 wires makes simulates a hammer knocking inside. If the problem isn't escalating than check to see if your tub support arms are all tight. There are 12 of them.

You may not have the coupling seated properly. However, if the unit is agitating and spinning at the same time, you may have a more serious transmission problem.
