Question about Curtis-Mathis CM27101S TV

1 Answer

Screen needs both horizontal and vertical adjustments, and color looks out of balance. Went to sleep and picture was fine. Awoke and it was the way described.

There are a few capacitors in the vertical circuit that has been a common failure for this set. If one of those go bad it will cause the picture to be stretched at top and bottom. The most common caps that fail and cause this are c303, c309, c310, and c311. I can't find anything in my notes that will cause it to be stretched horizontally for this model. The eeprom ic is also a common failure of these sets. It can cause color problems and all sorts of strange things. If it is only a couple of caps that needs changed, it will probably cost $40 - $60 to get repaired by a tech. It's hard to say what the eeprom would cost, because many sets require a good bit of time to set up after an eeprom change. It could cost anywhere from $40 - $80 to have someone change it.

My picture is doubled on my toshiba TN50V71 as if there is a shadow behind everything? Please help!

hi, sounds like a convergence issue. try this...
  • Look through your manual. Your manual will always give you the most specific directions for your particular model. Look for an "adjusting convergence" or "set manual convergence" section.

  • Enter the menu on your TV. Use the remote control and bring up the menu.
  • Choose "Convergence." This may be under "Picture Settings," "Function" or "Advanced Options."
  • Select a color. You will have red, green and blue to choose from. Do each one, starting with red.
  • Press "Enter." A crosshair pattern will appear on your screen.
  • Adjust vertically. If there is a horizontal red line visible, press the up or down arrow keys (or channel up or down) to adjust the convergence until the line is superimposed on the horizontal-center line of the white crosshair.
  • Adjust horizontally. If there is a vertical red line visible, press left or right (or volume up or down) to adjust horizontally. Do this until the line is superimposed on the vertical line of the white crosshair.
  • Save settings. It is important to save your settings when you are done, instead of simply exiting the menu.
  • Repeat these steps for all colors.
    good luck!

32" LCD tv w/built in DVD mounted on wall. screen will not hold picture - looks like vertical or horizontal hold needs adjusting, but cannot figure out how to adjust. happens when using DVD or VGA...

Vertical and horizontal adjust went out with black and white TV pretty much.I remember those days too...what would kids nowadays do???lol.Anyhow, the fact that it clears up sometimes when you slap it should mean that the screen is fine.Something on the circuit board may need repair.Unfortunately,I have searched for diagrams for TV's online many times and only authorized shops have the access required.I just checked westinghouse, not even a way to sign in if I were a reapir shop. So,needless to say, a shop will have to check it out.Sorry That's all I can suggest and good luck!

    Vertical line picture

problem is caused by the loss of horizontal deflection signal. It is quite surprising that the entire unit is still working, since usually, a loss of H-Out will disable the entire set. Problem can be as simple as loose solder connection to a more complicated defective horizontal circuit. I would suggest havint it checked by a professional TV tech.

    Hitachi 51SWX20B Convergence problem

    Solution:

Your TV has a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

    Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in or warped.

    Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence or magic focus section.

    Try to adjust the convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Its a fairly easy fix on the Hitachi sets.

You can get a repair kit that includes all the parts from www.TvRepairKits.com. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc.
Everything you need to fix it yourself.
