Camera Lens Stuck Outside

I was taking photos all night but after I charged it I took 2 photos and the lens is now stuck outside and it tells me to power off then power back on, I have done this several times with nothing happening, as well as removed the battery and charged it and the lens is still stuck outside the camera.

Lens stuck in the extend position.

The problem you are describing is a problem with a sensor in the lens assembly. It seems to have failed and needs to be replaced. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product. The cost is $87 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Cannon G7 need help

Hi
Had the same problem a few months ago. There was a high pitchedwhisltle and I think the screen said "lens fault.turn off camera" or something similar.Bought a G9 to replace as the 7 was out of guarantee but sent the 9 back to the e-bay reseller as it was obviously secondhand with grit around the lens ring and the viewfinder.Ebay never again!.So 3 months ago ago I tried the G7 again with a fresh charged battery before I consigned the camera to the loft.I noticed that each time i switched on the whistle and message was there but the lens extended slightly further each timeso I kept rebooting until the lens was fully extended.Turned the camera off and on again and everything was back to normal. It seems that this may be Canons protocol when a camera goes back. Its been absolutely fine until today. It wont boot up at all.I have tried 2 fresh charged batteries and its dead.Any ideas anyone?

Lens cover does not operate correctly

I fixed this problem on my Fuji FinePix A303 (though it took some hard work).

The problem:
Camera Lens Cover stuck open or stuck closed.
Power on, and get !LENS COVER error.
Lens fails to extend.

The solution:
Short answer: The motor driving the lens cover is weak and eventually breaks down. I manually open the cover now. This took a manual modification to the camera (and some work).

1. Take the camera apart. See here for details, and be careful around the flash, as you'll get a nasty shock otherwise! http://www.mathematik.uni-marburg.de/~haim/focuserr.htm
2. Once you can see this, you're just about there:
moz-screenshot-10.jpg17064a3.jpg
3. Take off the battery cover (in the picture above).
4. Wrap a wire around the sliding pin for the lens cover, and drill 2 small holes through the black structure underneath the battery case, and then to the outside. The wire goes from the pin to the outside via the two holes. You should be able to manually open and close the camera cover COMPLETELY now with the wire.
5. Reassemble the camera (actually, you can test that it's working when it's all apart, if you're careful).
6. To operate the camera now, close the shutter first while off. Power on the camera, and very soon after open the shutter all the way by pulling on the wire (from step 4). This basically mimics the action of the little lens cover motor. If you timed it right (you have about a second margin), the lens should extend and everything functions perfectly.

It would have been nice to have been able to simply buy a new motor, but that would probably be a pain and cost some money.

Hope this helps!

Samsung L830 wont' work

well when you charge your camera your charger should be red at first; green means it's fully charged...as for the lens....try turning it on and gently pull or push on the part that sticks out and maybe it might activate and go back in.

that happened to mine and I tried that and it worked...now my only issue is that the shutters won't close and when I turn it on i get like 3 beeps and the screen shuts off with the power button still on...

seems like everyone's having this problem.

good luck. :]
