HEAT FAILURE - This means the heating system has failed to respond, which can occur because a high temperature limit switch has been tripped and needs resetting. On gas deep fryers, "HEAT FAILURE" may display if the pilot fails to light or if the pilot flame is too weak as detected by the ignition module.

If your fryer has computer controller (the one with 8 product buttons and left, right arrow), check the display when you turn off the computer board, it should display "gas 2". If not, you have to change the gas configuration by accessing the programming mode.

Check sum failure is an error on the configuration of the computer board. You have to reset the computer board to factory setting to get rid of this error (if check sum failure appears every now and then on the display). Make sure that you have the list of your cooking parameters before you reset the board to factory setting. Any settings made prior to a factory reset will be lost. You need to identify where the leak is coming.
If the leak is on the fry tank, best way to address it is to replace the oil tank.
Check the serial number of the unit with leak on fry tank, verify if it is still under warranty at PITCO web on http://www.middleby.com.

The thermocouple or thermopile is your culprit. If it is not sending the correct millivolt signal to the main part of the gas valve telling it to open then, the burners will not light. This is the cheapest part to start with. If after changing this out & you have the same problem then, you have a bad gas valve.
